Snap on socket defect question

Bought a nearly new set of snap on 3/8 shallow sae sockets today off craigslist.
The 13/16 socket has a manufacturing defect. I couldn't get the picture to show it good but the name and size stamp, as well as the part number were etched almost towards the square end of the socket, and the lower groove they cut into the socket cuts right through the middle of it all. Was going to send it with my friend to the snap on truck this week. Will he get any grief trying to exchange it?

You could probably exchange it easily, but I would try and sell it on eBay. People collect mistake tools...why I don't know?

So just a stamping defect? The socket is still useable?

I would keep it and use it. I have a couple Snap-On tools with stamping issues, including the ratchet in my avatar (stamped shallow on one side of the logo). They still work.

If its just a stamping defect I would let it go but if it bothers you I'm sure SO will swap it for you.

Yes it is a stamping defect. It wouldn't bother me, but if I didn't have it on the magnetic tray or rail with other sockets, you wouldn't know what size it is. The size stamping is hardly able to be made out.

He might.

I don't know if snap on would replace it if you told the truth about where you got them; they probably would but probably put a little mark beside your name to watch what you do warranty wise.

You can ask them. They seem to be overly generous with their customers, but it might just be if they know you.

Personally...cosmetic stuff I don't give two donkeys about.

Call snap on, yell and scream at them.
Insist they replace the socket immediately or,you are going to take pictures and post them on the net to show what their quality is like.
Loud and belligerent will get you what you want........

Actually I like the idea of selling it as a mistake to someone that likes to collect those. Then buy yourself a replacement socket

Hell, if you use your sockets enough you'll be able to tell the size of it from 2 feet away.

Yep it will be the shinny one between the scratched up 3/4 and 7/8

If you had purchased it off the truck I'm sure most drivers would swap but since u got it used its up to the dealer and probably gonna depend on how good a customer your buddy is. Its not really that drivers responsibility to make it right after all the socket is functional.

Or you could brake it then no grief at all.

As a dealer if you were one of my customers I would exchange it. Buuuuuut if you were a guy that never buys anything from me I'd tell ya to live with it.

Got it replaced today. I do have an account with him, but he doesn't come by my shop so I have to drive 5 miles to meet him. That's why I was going to send it with my friend to his shop.
