Or... you could get it replaced for free. That warranty is part of why they cost so much. My driver would immediately replace a cracked one, no questions asked. If you don't have a driver, contact support at snapon.com

It looks messed with or vandalized. OP can't even recognize it as 12 point socket.

I wouldn’t throw it out. It can be used to make something if you need a socket end. I have a plate with bad sockets welded to it that holds my beam torque wrenches. I’ve also used sockets to make other tools. Or, replace it. I would not throw it away.

What is the number stamped into it?

First Guess: Not a worn-out 12-point. The "wear" goes all the way to the end of the broaching which is not something I'd expect from "too much use". Something "special". Broken, but "special".

MAYBE it's been deliberately modified; but I don't know why or what purpose it served.

Just a regular double hex in the 1950 T catalog p24, extra thin, straight wall .
