learn me something here

if I recall, the sockets with a date code of G are war era goverment sockets...right?
1940s?
military?
for war producton?

and if I recall they are not warrantied by SO

I just picked these up mixed in with some other stuff.
I am assuming there is someone what collects these specifically?

its amazing to me that they appear virtually identical to the new stuff in many ways. I guess when you got it right 60 years ago, why bother changing it

Going to have to ask yet another silly Q here. Why isn't this item covered by normal channels?

What's the difference?

tools made during that time were meant for use for one year then tossed and the ARMY bought another set that way each time they were used IN BATTLE they had new tools that were not wore out so they could get the job done.
they still do that now and then ( they give them away to the soldiers) and they call it battle field loss. less paper work when they return from deployment. if you want to see a stampede be there at that time guys are running and throwing each other out of the way to get an arm load. they they go straight to the pawn shop and the PS puts them on ebay...

Wow, that would explain all the tools with markings shaved off on e-bay. I can see this being the case for things that I would consider precision tools like torque wrenches etc. But wrenches, sockets?

So, why is there a 1945 catalog? Would that not indicate that not all the G and E codes were military?

The G is a date code, not part of the model number. The newer model numbers that start with a G are black finish tools.

Damn. I bet the salesman who negotiated that contract could sell ice to an Eskimo.

"So, we will sell you the best quality tools in the world.

We will stand by them 100% as long as you throw them all out once a year and replace them.

This will assure you that they will not fail in the event you actually have to use them regularly."

they wanted new tools every year. some of the date code charts had government hand written under the g.
now the catalog I do not know about that. but a majority of the tools that I have seen ( on fort hood) that were old, had the g on them... not a V like some of the tools have.
and the e in 1944 some charts had ti listed as emergency?????? not sure why there either
