I like Snap on, I have used primarily Snap on since 1965. If you can afford them, get them and keep the Craftsman for home or auto.

When "upgrading" you're replacing something that isn't broken, so it's all about what it's worth to you.

50% is a rare deal, so if you want them and can justify spending the money, then why not?

It's a 3 way battle between want, need, and budget. You're the only one that can answer that question.

How much is the final cost for both sets? I just bought a matco 15 inch 3/8 88 tooth ratchet and got a 5 piece extension set free. I probably didn't need them but he only had 2 left and I only paid 140 for both. If its worth it to you do it. If you feel like you could spend the money on other things that you need then wait.

He is giving them to me for $186 canadain +tax its crazy cause i looked on snap on's website and one set is more then that. I think its cause ive bought full wrench sets and ratchets, screwdrivers, hammers , pics , torque wreches and the list goes on, hes being nice and giveing me a dam good deal on the sockets. I waited for a long time to upgrade the sockets cause i was not sure they where any better then what i have. Snap on dose have flank drive So maybe that makes them better. To me i just want good made in the usa quality tools when i can get it.
Thank you all :)

Deal from your snap on guy? You professional mechanic? I would upgrade your craftsman. Keep them as backups.

Short answer: buy right (sale) and stash those someplace only you have access to.

Long answer: My experience is there have been times that a quality.socket saved me major headaches. Ford van....460....rear cylinder exhaust leak....high miles (an easy one to round).

Also...I find good tools make for good flow.

As long as they are 6 point, I'd jump on it. Keep the CMans as backup.

For deeps....hell yea, I hate full depth. The damn nut falls all the way in there and gets cockeyed and stuck. That's for the birds my man.

That being said I keep a set of Craftsman in a sad, dark drawer for when and if I need full depth.

Those deals crop up from time to time in the U.K. too!

I reckon it's a good deal. I've bought a set or two that way, and I know some serious users who are even putting away spares!

Yes, I reckon Snap On are worth the money (and it's more money here than the U.S.) but only you can really decide if it's worth it for yourself! It's not just the fit of the sockets, and the durability, but the enjoyment that give in use!

It's also great having two differing levels of quality in your tools. If I'm swopping parts on a Porsche, it's all nice and clean, and the fasteners are decent, I use my Snap On! If I'm taking rusty fasteners off some wreck in a scrapyard I use my old Acesa!

If you don't go for it, and subsequently want the item anyway, it'll really hurt having to pay full price!

Snapon makes some nice stuff no doubt....
I finally re-bought an F80 because I regretted selling my old one.

But I simply don't see how the sockets are worth it.

I've had some, cracked some, and eventually sold them...
I've got mostly SK, Craftsman (USA and China), Urrea, and Gearwrench, and even some Pittsburgh, and I really don't think the bolts know the difference....

I've got chrome sets of USA brands, but still have a 1/2'' set of 12 point shallow metric that are P&M ( Popular Mechanics ) Taiwan. I've not broken one of the PM's yet, and use the 12mm as a Ford drive line socket with my impacts. The non-USA doesn't bother me as bad these days on 'some things' unless they trying to charge USA prices. Those P&M's were bought new with the idea of using them to drive bearing races, so far they've served for that very well. And still handy when I come across a 12 point bolt. I've had them a couple decades and thought they'd be smashed plum flat by now.

2 reasons I'd upgrade to Snap-On

1) I don't trust C'man warranty anymore. If I break something, it'll get replaced with Chinese stuff once all the USA open stock gets sold/warrantied out.

2) I like the shallow broach of the Snap-On for most uses, although if I had both I'd keep both because sometimes you may need the deep broach of the Craftsman.

Buy the snap-on sockets they really are better. Keep the craftsmans and take em home or keep them incase you need a deep broached socket. Or if the craftsmans are 12point keep them incase u need a 12pt socket.

That is why I visit my Snap on dealer on Monday to find out if there are any specials. Very hard to say no to a BOGO deal.
But he will at least give me a day to think about it, if I ask.
He just sold me 1/4 and 3/8 indexable ratchets and he just found a 1/2 inch one which he put away for me.

My snap on guy has this all the time. Buy sockets and get free ratchet. Buy sockets and get extensions. Buy deeps get shallows, etc..I have switched some over and took my craftsman home mainly to build up my home stuff not because I thought they were inferior. Have bought a lot of Mac stuff too. Some stuff I prefer Mac some stuff I prefer snap on. Just depends.

I make six figures and I use SO. I am the owner and wrench every other day.

Totally worth it IMO.

It made absolutely no sense to say this

I do very well with less investment. Haven't broken a socket that was used properly in many years

And I thought you were a framer?

I don't believe you would ever regret making that deal. If you have the money, I would do it.

I agree with Bob. Worth the money and there are plenty of occasions you need duplicate sockets. Make the Sears sockets your road tools. My first set of Snap-On sockets are 41 years young and still like new. I have multiple sets of wrenches and sockets and it makes life easier for me. Go for it.

How could you lose? You stated you are getting them for half off or greater, so even if you dont like them for some reason you can ebay them for no loss.

They wont make you a better mechanic, they will however make you happy and that is worth the price difference alone.

Hey Friend, I know what you're saying.

My comment was more a play on semantics than taking a jab at you.

You are of the opinion that they are not worth it, while I'm of the opinion they are. I like the fit (finish is nice as well) and the shallow broach of the deep sockets are great.

I don't go around just breaking non-SO sockets either, but SO sockets are definitely more refined and a better fit.

The way I see it is, a fairly complete set of SO sockets is a rather small stack of hundred dollar bills compared to how many stacks I'll make in a lifetime. Which is how long the sockets last. If you like using them, it's a penny investment when divided through the years.

As far as being a framer, yep, used to was. Now I wear my bags once a year when a buddy cons me into helping them at their house. lol. Now I'm self employed as a Claims Adjuster, and only wrench for fun.

Either way, no hard feelings. Just having fun on the interwebs.

I completely agree and have been upgrading all my tools from USA craftsman to SK or Snap on. If you wait for the deals and watch the BOGOs you can get great tools at a decent price.;)

Nice deal. If you have the room, keep the magnetic trays. They're a great way to store your sockets.
