So I was out shopping this afternoon and my wife stumbled upon some old Snap On sockets - shallow chrome and deep impacts in 3/8. Of course I have to have them. They are marked "Canada"... A wise man once told me about a SO factory on the outskirts of the GTA- maybe Newmarket back in the 80's. Is this true and how doI tell how old the sockets are? Thanks

Snap-on had a Canadian factory in Concord, Ontario that made almost the full line of tools sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.

I think I read on a thread in GJ, that they opened the plant in the 70's when the metric system was introduced in Canada and shut it down in the late 80's due to the free trade agreement with the US

Thanks for the info everyone, as well as the date code symbol chart. These tools are headed back to Concord this morning, because that's were I work! Will try and post some pics once I figure out how.

That is really interesting,I had never heard that, but I remember when the Metric scare was out there and every one was up in arms over having to start a new box of tools.Big dollars, even then.

Yea but once they settled down and relized they could claim all the metric tools including the metric hammer, adjustable wrench, tool boxs and so on on their taxes all was good..
