Snap on solus ultra vs gm tech II

okay I have a tech 2, however my red brick is outdated. Need something for newer ford and dodge. looking at solus ultra, question is on gm vehicle will it do everything tech 2 will? Thinking if so I would sell tech 2 to help pay for solus. Thanks for any input

I don't believe you can reprogram the PCM with it as you can with the Tech 2.

Look at autel ds708 as the solus ultra only has a few more years before they are coming out with new version much better for the money I bought one of the first ultra and the autel is on par with it but does not have annoying updates like snap on does

I have a tech 2 an AUtel ds708 ,and a snap on verus the only thing i can say from using them everyday the ds708 will do almost everything that the tech 2 will do other than pcm reprogramming the misfire graphic as well as all the bidirectional control i have compared them side by side i don't really use my tech 2 much anymore the ds708 is very very cheap and has the most bang for the buck

do aftermarket scanners have all the bi directional controls as the tech 2? Oh, I like the guage sweep test it has also.

The solus should be able to do everything short of flashing ecms and programming keys that the tech 2 does

both of my aftermarket scan tools will do everything that the tech 2 will do i just prefer the autel persionaly

throw a saab card in that tech 2 and now compare it to the snap-on or the autel

i own 15+ scan tools at my shop (mostly oe)

my favorite to use is the tech 2


keep the tech 2 and buy an autel (preferably a maxisys but a maxidas will do if the funds are not there)

i have used the snapon scanners but prefer oe or autel

i do a fair amount of finish work (setup procedures,relearns etc) for local shops after their snapon couldn't do it

You can't unlock a 2001 and newer GM radio without the Tech 2.If you replace a window switch in a Chevy Trailblazer,GMC Envoy and Buick Ranier,the window switch has to be programed with the Tech 2.The computer reprograming of a GM computer,a tish program is needed also which is done online only now which is not cheap for a year.The replacement transmission in place of the 4T65E,has to be programed to the vehicle which is vehicle specific.

i would agree there is still some stuff i use the tech 2 on some gm stuff i user my verus for an scope most of the time the autel works great on a lot of ford and Asian and euro stuff lots of relearns ext

First off the solus ultra has already been replaced by the solus edge. So its already obsolete and you haven't even bought it yet. The tech 2 does many things the snap-on cant do. And it also does alot of things better then the solus. We have a tech 2, drb3, wds, solus pro, solus ultra, and a launch "pad". They all have there pros and cons. Snapon scanners are more user friendly and are more rugged if your a brute i would recommend them. The launch typically works great on euro cars. The solus is a great tool but do your self a favor and keep your tech 2.
