Snap On "SS" Classic limited edition boxes

I just purchased my 2nd SO box of my life - a KRA 2422/2410 combo in flat black. The deal was good enough that I would have jumped on it had the box(es) been pink, and I've lusted over the flat black trend for a few years, waiting for the right deal. My only issue is this set is an "SS" edition, w/ reddish orange vertical "racing" stripes centered, front, top and back, and "SS" chrome badges on the upper right corners...definitely not my style. The stripes are decals, and easily come off, leaving no residue or discoloration...it is a new box after all.

My question is whether I would be destroying something of unique value by "de-blinging" the set. I'm not up on SO boxes enough to know what value the "SS" editions hold, if any. I see LE Z28 editions and such go on EBay for usually less than an equivalent non-LE box - used of course.

Input, opinions and hate mail welcome... Thanks in advance. Pic will posted shortly.

The general observation is that "special edition" boxes with decals or designs are typically harder to sell than plain boxes.

That's further complicated because, if I'm not mistaken, these boxes sold for a premium when new. A lot of sellers expect that premium to be maintained when selling the box used, instead of the inverse of that.

Your box sounds pretty low-key compared to a lot of them.

Well why did you buy the box? To use or to Resell?
If you bought it to use it...do what makes YOU happy, forget what other people say and enjoy it. Burn the bridge of selling it down the road when the time comes.

IMHO when it comes to special edition boxes its YMMV. For example you couldn't PAY me to haul away a triple bank Epiq in Ford blue with Ford logo's on it...on the other hand. I'd really like to find one of the Black w/White Stripe GM Muscle Car KRL's and would pay a premium for one.
Even colors...I'd love an extreme green, my brother...never would pay for one.

Nice box. You paid for it do what you want. in 5 years I don't think it will affect resale. If SS become the pre64 winchesters of the tool world you could save the badges and re apply some decals.

Thanks for the replies. Stripes are going to go, and I'll make it what I want...a bigger version of my old red Matco, no bling... I do a lot of custom work, and have access to a variety of aftermarket parts - higher end stuff, which I also use on my personal vehicles. Over the years, I've accumulated quite a few decals, stickers and such...so the cool ones will go on the inside of the top chest lid. Yes, it might be redneck....

As for my choice of not going with a pricier line... Well, I'm a tow & recovery guy. That's where I make the bulk of my money. Wrenching just fills some in-between time and gives me an opportunity to get away from the insanity of the tow business. If I was in a decent shop, or owned one, and was doing as good as I do with the trucks, I'd probably have aimed for a silver Epiq...

I have a kra2422. Its just plain flat black without the stripes and decal on the right of the box. Mine does have the SS badge to the right above the top drawer in the corner. I am out growing the 2405 top box thats on it now so I am going to order either the 2410 or 2408 this week.
