Has anyone else noticed that Snap on stamping is a bit bad. Some ratchets Ive seen had the stamping go from finely detailed on one side and completely fade away on the other side. Like the S in Snap on would be good and the on would just about fade away. Just figured I'd see if it was a bad batch or they all like that any more.

This video should give you and idea of what the stamping process is, how a good stamp looks. I have gotten some new warranty ratchets lately; some of them have very light stamps on them and others looks better. Obviously, there are variations in stamp quality; from what i am seeing, q/c seems less consistent/stringent lately, then in the past.

Some people think I'm too picky but I also notice this.

All but my FLF80 Snap-on ratchet had a good stamp:

It's still my favorite ratchet though. =) Flex head = win.

Ok, should be fixed now. Notice how all of the other ratchets have DEEP beveled stamps while the FLF80 has light uneven stamps.

I swear, Snap-on should hire me as QC cause I notice things people will never notice. Beware, some people will come in here and yell at us for even discussing this lol.

I picked up a FHL80 on the truck and just happened to noticed the stamping on the lever off and on the off was almost not there. So I picked up another one and stamping was great on it, its in my box now.

If you're buying off the truck or one that looks brand new, you deserve a perfectly stamped one.

Yes, but that's not about how well it was stamped. It looks like it was stamped with a different die. This is a change in style/design, not a quality issue. They're all stamped very well.

I've also wondered if the dies wear, as time goes on and they have to be replaced as they are worn out. Thus, the variation in some deeper, clearer stamping and some very light. I don't know if this is true but that theory would explain the differences we are seeing. Anyone in the machine or in production\manufacturing know if this would be true?

I was looking at some 1/4" ratchets on the truck and a couple had misstamps and really light stamps. I picked through them to find a good one and told my dealer. He promptly threw them in the return bin.

Dies do wear. Alphanumeric's are usually replaceable. It's poor QC when it gets that bad. It's unfortunate to have it on a high end tool. Something from china, no problem. Snap On, that's embarrassing.
