Snap On SV 71A 1/2" Drive???

Just discovered a Snap On 1/2" drive in my tool box...SV 71A. I have no other Snap On tools.

I have no idea where it came from...maybe from the previous owner of our house since I bought a lot of his "stuff" rather than him having a sale b/4 we moved in.

I informed my wife that since I have the "start" of a Snap ON tool collection...it will be necessary to buy ALL the rest of the Snap On tools I would like Starting with a $4,000+ rolling base tool box!

BTW...any idea how old a 1/2" SV 71A is??? Thanks...Tom R

I have one here that came in a lot of some older tools (older than the SV71a), but it doesnt have a date code. I would guess 50's-60's, maybe even later. Its later than my collecting focuses on. Anyone want one?

Looks very similar...I took a picture with my new DSLR...but I can't figure out how to "size" the file down to be able to attach. I need to take a class to learn how to manipulate and adjust the files out of this new camera...Canon 40D. Tom R

BTW...Don't you all agree that I "need" to buy some new Snap On tools to "fill out" my exisiting "set"...one ratchet Tom R

Instead of sizing the pic down so you can attach it, how about uploading the pic to a site like www.photobucket.com

That way you can retain the size and integrity of the pic....

I think now that you have the ratchet, take the $4000 and complete the 1/2" drive set. It should almost be enough.

Tom, what you want to do is after you upload your pic, copy and paste the IMG code into your post (not the url or direct link). Then we'll ALL get to see the picture!

I have (2) 1/2" flat handles and (1) 3/8" but I rarely ever reach for one though I do keep them in my use box.

Seems to have worked great. Photo Bucket will allow you to resize your photos to message board size if you so desire.

Thats a great looking ratchet. Do you know what year is was made? Check this link and consult the date code chart.

Thanks...is there supposed to be a date code in addition to the SV-71A marking you see on the ratchet? I see no other marking? Perhaps the SV-71A contains a date code? Thanks...Tom R

Actually I can see it in the photo. It is between the on and off. It is a 5, which corresponds to 1965.

All the more reason NOT to resize.

That ratchet looks totally different now taht I can see the details... before it looked a little archaic, but now I can see that it actually has a lot in common with more modern pieces.

There appears to be no other mark on the other side of the ratchet or anywhere else on it.

That seems like a strange place to put a date code?

That is the standard location for a date code on a snap on ratchet from about 1934 (before that it was on the bottom plate that holds the guts in place), up until the late 1970's, maybe even later.

Not sure why mine doesnt have a date code.

This is an old thread...but I have the same ratchet...any ideas on what its worth?
