I'm getting more disappointed in the current quality of the Snap on T72 ratchet series. Today the direction lever broke just changing from one side to the other. The ratchet is only a couple of months old and hasn't been dropped or abused. I think Snap on did great with the F80 series but, the new 1/4 drive ratchets could be better. We have other T72 series that bind slightly, the heads are a little too thick, while other have drive end play.

Man, I have had a lot of trouble with 1/4" ratchets over the years, and I hoped Snap On had come up with something spectacular.

I'm thinking someone at Snap On needs to know about these levers breaking. The 936 series had the strongest lever.

It didn't pop out or anything. I flipped it with my thumb to change direction, and it was gone. The ratchet is pretty new and has never been used as a hammer or dropped. It may be a fluke and not a trend. I just hate spending money and not getting the expected performance out of it. I'll get over it unles it happens again.

I bought a used 3/8" snapon ratchet that had the previous generation lever (the one with the bolt thru it) and it was broken when I bought it (later rebuilt and replaced by my dealer). I guess any lever can be broken; I have a 1/4" ratchet with the newer style lever and it hasn't broken yet!

Sweetheart of a ratchet, and no selector lever to break

That is a nice ratchet. I have versions in 1/4 and 3/8 drives. The 3/8 is a compact version the same size as the 1/4. I can't keep the 3/8 version working more than a couple of months though. I think I'm on at least rebuild number 4.
My Snap on dealer gave me a new T72 ratchet today. He didn't have a rebuild kit for it. Since the ratchet still looked new, he gave me a new one so, I would shut up about their tools not being what they used to be.:bounce:
Is anyone else experiencing any binding when you swtch directions on a T72 series ratchet? I noticed today that none of my versions (regular, long, and flex head) switch direction as easily as say the 36 tooth series. Hopefully, they'll improve with age and use before failing.

You might be over torqueing the 3/8 inch drive swival ratchet. This ratchet is not designed to be torque more than about 30 LBF FT. Use a breaker bar first to break the fastener loose then use the ratchet.

The swival head ratchet is also not sealed like the other Snap On ratchets so grime and dirt can enter the ratchet mechanism and cause problems. It does have advantages though and it is worth owning.
