Snap on taco cart value?

So I found a snap on taco cart. All the drawers work no keys, but its in rough shape. No real dents but bad rust. Guy wants $120 for it. I figure if its real bad its worth that in scrap. What y'all think?Are they easy to fix up?

Ya I told him I'd give him $100 he countered $120 lol. Haven't emailed him back since Idk if I need it at home and I have a nice matco at work lol. I'm scared it'll tuen into one of my lost projects that never gets finished

Knowing what I know now about old boxes I wouldn't touch that thing even for free unless I just wanted a project to kill time. That is going to take some serious work especially on the end drawers, I can all but guarantee the internal frame has serious rot problems.

Those drawers and possibly frame really need to be dipped to clean and then paint. Unless you have access to this on the cheap the time and money invested to make it a non rusty mess is going to be enormous.

I always enjoy you "I'll give you" folks. Usually too ignorant and arrogant for your own good.

I would buy it, assess it, and if I decided I didn't have the time/desire to fix it up, I'd sell/give it to a friend. But I enjoy fixing up things like that, and friends who do the same.

Wish it were closer, I have been wanting a project box like that. What I would love to find in fixer upper shape is a KR1000 I love those boxes.

Looks like just the one side was exposed to weather. Like maybe it was under a tarp that covered everything but the side. Depends on how much work and time you'd want to put into it. I like working on that stuff, so I'd likely get it myself.

If you do want it, just give him the $120. That looks more than fair IMO.

That would be fun to fix up imho and $120 is definitely a decent price. Since he said all the drawers open and close I'll assume the slides are all fine with maybe some cleaning and grease. You could have $200-$250 into that box and end up with something of a legendary box, great satisfaction in your work and a good story to tell. I would be all over that. Just imagine how hard those boxes will be to find 20 years from now.

I would. as said before, if it seems too bad once you give it a thorough looksee, throw it back on cl or here. I wouldn't have time to type to the guy on my way to get that box. of course I'm a body guy that can fix the rust and such a drawer or two at a time.

Oh, yeah! That's a lot of cubic inches for $120. It will require a lot of sweat equity, but they sell for 10X that in shinier shape.

That's a little rougher than the one I'm restoring right now, well, a lot rougher, but I would give $120.00 for it, no problem. Like previously mentioned, you can always part it out.

My Kennedy tool chest was in worst shape when i got it. A littl ebit of elbow grease and paint goes a long way. The rust on that really doesnt look that bad from the pics. Looks like its all just surface which is an easy fix.

Looks like surface rust even though it's somewhat bad surface rust.
I would go over there with a wire brush and the little tool to remove drawers.
Take a few drawers out and check out the inside and try to brush off some of the rust.
If the metal is not too bad and the frame is still solid I would take that home

Axel's Tool and Pawn on Sprague Avenue in Spokane in May, 2013 sold one for $1250.

I stop in there about once a month to keep current on local high end prices. They've got a ton of tools, but at top dollar.

That's gotta be a real hard sell anywhere for that kind of money. I saw one on eBay a couple months ago in California, late '70s box in real nice shape. No reserve, auction started at $500 and it didn't sell.

Cost + time/materials to restore it. Might be worth it to you but it's gonna take a while to do it.

In Ca. the top amount is about $650.00 that I've seen. I'm starting to question myself as I'm restoring one right now, is it worth it? It's turning out to be more work & cost than expected. I was gonna powder coat it, that would have been $600.00 alone. Decided on paint, now I see how much good automotive paint is, 'bout $125.00 a quart with the hardener, etc. Hmm, how many quarts do you think a taco cart would require, drawers included?
