Can anyone tell me the differences between the KR 562A, B, C, D, E, and F? Is one more desirable then the other? Thanks for the help

It would probably be more accurate to flip through the old catalogs. I find the SO parts side to be very questionable.

Sorry I am not familiar enough with that model otherwise I would tell you what the differences were. Usually it is things like drawer pull chrome trim, badge style, possible drawer layout, some structural changes. Addition of ball bearing drawers to replace heavy friction drawer.

The old catalogs don't seem to be much help. Any other ideas?

What exactly are you trying to find out about it? From my limited knowledge I don't think very many were sold. At least in comparison to the other KRA series boxes. They were pretty expensive and kinda strange layout for the typical garage. I think the aviation guys were the primary users of them.

Are you looking to purchase or sell one?

As for desirable. If I was looking to purchase one I would desire one that was not rusted out or beat to heck and back. :lol_hitti

EDIT. Do you watch "Person of Interest" by chance?

I actually think they sold pretty well. I pretty sure those were made for at least 10 years and see them pretty often. I bet I could find one for sale locally before a kr 10000.

Yes, I'd say the KR 10000 - that's KR ten thousand - is pretty rare, at least from Snap on. Not so rare from Kenwood, though. It's an old audio receiver that seems to have quite a following.

I am looking to buy one. From my research it seemed like some used Ball bearing slides other used friction. I am pretty sure KR 562C is the one with the ball bearing slides but am curious what else I should know about them.

I don't know if they ever had a full set of ball bearing slides. I have seen some where the bottom drawers had ball bearing slides only.

O really? :dunno: They just don't seem nearly as plentiful as the more common 27" wide KRA boxes. At least from what I have seen. Up in WI, with all the aviation and out in CA I can see where they may be more abundant.

1978-1980-->A, no chrome pulls
1983-->C, chrome pulls

Interestingly enough the load capacity went down 500lbs between the A & C version, yet the boxes overall weight remained the same. :headscrat

Yea usually in the older boxes they would add ball bearings to only the larger, heavily loaded drawers at the bottom. I don't think it was untill the late 80's till they started coming out with full ball bearing bottom boxes. :dunno:

While it is true I have to watch so not to trip over kra 59 top boxes that litter the street. I see more tacos pop up on CL and in shops then I see kr1000s.

Yep, and yep. My KR 560 made in '85 only has BB slides on the biggest drawer. My KR 650 and KR 655 boxes from '88 have a combination of BB slides and friction, with just the small drawers on the top box being friction slide.

I believe the rule of thumb kr5xx are friction, kr6xx are ball bearing.

Kinda, as Lookin mentioned above the later kr5xxx series can be mostly friction with a few ball bearings thrown in, typically lower, larger drawers. Likewise the kr6xxx can be MOSTLY ball bearing with a handful of friction slides thrown in. Usually on the smaller or top couple of drawers. It wasn't till into the 90's that they started to completely get rid of the friction slides. From what I have seen.

I have a KRA 562 and they had friction slides apart from the deep drawer on the side which had the predecessor to the current bearing slide's.
I could do with a set of them for mine as the deep drawer ones are broken and I have 3 drawers with friction slides also broken
