Anyone know if it is possible to retrofit the Dual 80 ratchet head onto an older Techangle wrench? Or did the yoke dimensions change?

I went down this path before and forget the answer. I think you cannot simply swap the TAs head for a dual80.

No advice, but where I ended up was wondering why I needed that. Torque wrenches don’t really function like normal ratchets. Back drag isn’t really a concern, nor is there much benefit of super fine teeth. If you find yourself with very little swing room, you have bigger problems. You really should hit your target torque after a 90 degree swing. If you don’t have it, you are potentially losing a lot of accuracy due to stick slip.

I use my TAs on every job I do, which is probably a few times a month. I haven’t even serviced their heads in years. You shouldn’t be using your torque wrenches as ratchets. Bolts should be “seated”, all gaps closed before torquing.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with the answer to your question.

Appreciate the response - I was assuming it wouldn't be quite so easy, but on my 1/2" it'd be a nice upgrade given the length. I may end up buying newer models as the reduced swing arc (along with the better UX / menus) would be nice.

I have the older gray handled TA. Maybe the first TA and would love to have the new model for their drag strip lights, bigger screen. Wish the screen could be rotated so I could see it better. But honestly, the gray Tech Angles are pretty amazing, compared to a clicker. “Upgrading” for the ratchet just isn’t in the cards for me.

I have had the older “techwrench” with no angle function with dual 80 heads, I think the first Techangles were based on the Techwrench design so I’d imagine the Techwrench dual 80 head would fit.

Personally however I would get the new type Techangle, they can be picked up relatively cheaply in the UK at least, and are much nicer to use than the older versions. My only complaint about the newer ones would be the printing on the buttons wears quickly compared.

I’ve never seen a techwrench with a dual 80 head. Here they all had 32 tooth heads. Pretty sure the first gray tech angles had the same heads. Not sure when we got 80 tooth heads on torque wrenches here.

Regardless of when, I don’t think it really matters much what head you have on a torque wrench. If you need a finer toothed head for swing room, you have other problems.
