Hey all,

Been looking around online for Snap-on tool boxes. I just started as an aircraft mechanic, but didn't purchase a tool box while I was in school because I briefly worked in customer service for another company. So I didn't use my student discount for one. I found this deal online, it looks pretty good and I want to take a look at the box. Are there any concerns I should be worried about in regards to buying a box from a pawn shop? Any advice would be great. I love Snap-on but I really don't want to pay retail prices on some of this stuff.

Not a great deal, $2K would be nice, but if you like it you can do worse, and I searched your local c-list, there are only 2 boxes on there, lol... not much to choose from.. and they are both the same box in different colors for the same price...

That appears to be a KRL1022, they sell on ebay for right about what they are asking, true retail is about 4k, if you really like the box, Id show up and waive 2k cash in their face, They have less than 1k into that box Guarnteed

Yea not a ton of options, the reason I like this one is the size and the fact it's flat black. I was looking at flat black boxes before I graduated from school and with this one being discounted I'm very interested.

When draling with a pawn shop, you can figure they paid about %0% of the price they are asking for the item. I would make them an offer somewhere in between. On larger items they often pay even less to acquire the item, telling the seller it will take up too much floor space, it isn't something they have a lot of demand for, and other excuses to beat the customer down. I would offer them $1500 for that box and work up from there in $50 increments and not give more than $2000 for it. Have your cash in hand where they can see it and be ready to walk at your maximum price. Chances are they will not let you leave.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

If you are willing to travel a ways, there are a number of boxes on various CL listings in Iowa.

3k for a 1022 is a great price, I would pay that. I cant believe the people on here telling you to offer 1500. This is a serious toolbox!

Agree, I see KRL boxes that size for $1,500 dime a dozen. Maybe if you have a woody for that paint for some reason and are willing to pay twice what you need to to buy a similar box...your money. Asked our opinions.... I have bought and sold a lot of boxes. You can do a lot better. Also agree, if pawn shop has that, I would guess they are into it for about $900. My guess is they will knock $500 off. But they will wait for some sucker to come along looking at the price as a "steal" comparing it to new off the truck. They can afford to sit on it and wait for a sucker....he will come in due time. If one is a smart cash buyer, they should be looking at what it can be purchased on the used market for. It's capitalism, decide what side of it you want to be on.

Went to the pawn shop today to take a look at it. It's in good condition. Has a couple of scratches but not terrible. I did notice in one of the drawers there was a receipt from the original owner and it showed he got about 3k off for "preferred customer discount." So it's not 5k off like they're claiming, but still a good deal. I think I'm going to go by on Monday with some cash and see what I can get them down to.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I recently bought a 1032 off craigslist. I looked all over for a good deal. I noticed the Dallas area had a lot of boxes and really good prices. I Paid 3500 for a 3 bay Krl if that helps you judge. I was willing to make a pretty good drive to get a deal. I live in Kansas city.

If your options are slim... No harm in calling up a few local snap on, matco, etc dealers. Tell them you have cash and need a box asap. They usually have a box sitting on trade they can't wait to push.
