Snap On Tool Box Questions

A colleague of mine wants to sell me his Snap-On roll away tool box. It's in really nice shape, I think about 3 years old. The box is model number KRA4107

Are there any pros and cons to consider with this model? Also, looking on Snap-On's site it looks like this box retails new for about $2400.00, what's the going market price for a nice 3 year old one?

It would be a good starter box. If it lists for $2400, it probably really only sold for around $2000 new. Used and in good condition, it is worth less than half that.

The KRA4107 is a nice starter box. No issues. A lot of guys use that box like a service cart. It is a steal for $500 in my opinion. I could get $1000 for a used one in nice condition on my truck.

I have this box and it has served well for a few years. Im currently hunting down the top box. Its only 4 drawers, but its enough to tide me over for another couple years until I can drop KRL money. I had a lead on one for $400 about 2 hours from here but they crapped out. Its a nice box for sure. I bought mine for 600 loaded with tools.

Look like a nice box. Depending on what you plans for it are I may be inclined to keep looking for a larger box. Two weeks ago I bought a 54" KLR722 and already I am looking for a deal on a bigger box.

If you don't need alot of storage and can get a good price on the box jump on it.

It's interesting for me that you consider this a starter box, I guess for the professionals that you deal with it really is.

1000.00-1200.00 arouind here. But most are dreaming at 500.00.

Its going to come down to what he wants for it and what you are willing to pay.

900.00-1000.00 would be a pretty good deal.

All you truck guys always seem to remark that about twice the price that you'd find the thing used (with a little searching) is a good deal. I understand why. My friend who has the SO route around here says the same thing (and he's been doing it for 30 years), but I still get a chuckle.

I paid 400.00 for one in like new condition last fall. It was bought new and never used. Sat in a closet in the girls apartment for 3 years until she sold it to me.

I would definitely buy your colleagues for the 500.00 if i were you.

$1200 is a decent deal. I wish I could come across some of these deals that guys talk about. 1-3 year old boxes for 25% of list. I would snap them up in a heartbeat.

It seems to be a theme for some that and Snap-on box is worth 1/4 of it's list or less after two years..

I agree, that box looks a little small unless you are going to use it as an extra box or as a cart. I made the mistake of buying something that size (as well as the top box) and now I am in the market for a new box. The upper drawers are not tall enough to stand sockets up on end, and I do not want to bend down to get the tools I need most often (my sockets).

1/2 of retail for a box in great condition with a warranty is nothing to complain about. Sure, you can find them cheaper, but to many people time is money. To me, spending countless hours searching, driving, looking at "perfect" items that aren't perfect is a waste of my time, especially if I need said item now.

I probably wouldn't go more than 500 for that box. It is not very deep, you will find the drawers fill up pretty fast.

You do know that the drawers can be rearranged on that box. You can put the deep drawer up high if you want to.

I can certainly can see where you tool truck guys could sell a good condition box at 50% of retail all day long.You bring it to the door of the pro wrench, maybe take payments. = need it now, time is money.

For a home garage guy willing wait & hunt they can be found cheaper but it does = time & effort.

Just what I was just looking at 10-min ago. My buddy`s box was run into by a car at his job,and he is looking for a new box. I just saw a new Snap-On box on CL,guy said it cost $5400 new,and that he would be willing to give it away at only $4500!!!

I just sold a simmilar box in decent shape for $750. the ad was only up for a few hours and the guy was at my door. If I were buying one, I would only pay $5-600 but if I were selling one, there is no way that I would let it go for $500.

No, nothing to complain about. I agree that time is money. I think searching on the net is easy enough, esp. with all the services out there like CL helper, and so forth. I agree with you on need it now.


One point I wanted to make is that just that the amount of stuff I'm seeing nowadays and the economy being what it is, I've noticed even in Los Angeles (maybe especially in the big cities, I don't know), the prices on boxes are much lower than they were when I was looking two years ago.

That said, I think some of the SO stuff in the classifieds is too high. But there are guys like us who are enthusiasts who might think, "well, $250 for that SOEX wrench set is a lot, but it'd be even more on the truck".

$500.00 for that box is nothing short of a gift. The same guy who will offer you $500.00 will want $1200.00 ten seconds later. Ridiculous offers for any quality product, especially one with a lifetime warranty are not made by knowledgeable users but rather merchants looking to take advantage of anothers misfortunes. We get what we pay for and we sometimes pay for how we get something. This is just my opinion but if someone offered me $500.00 for a box valued at $2000.00, I would show him the door with my right boot stuck where the sun doesn't shine.

I'm not sure if it's the Classic series or the Heritage series, but WaterLoo makes the slides for one of those boxes. AccuRide makes the slides for the Masters and the new Epiq's. Just something to consider. I know I'm right cause Snap On customer service informed me of this.
