I haven't seen this mentioned here. If it was, I missed it. Anyways, Snap-on had this truck come around my work place back in March. It was full of tool boxes, pretty much in every color. My regular dealer was along for the ride , but this was a Snap-on thing. Well, I went out to take a look, I have wanted a KRL1023 in extreme green, but I really wasn't serious. I have been turning wrenches for 25 years, I figured I'm probably getting a little old to be thinking about a new box.

Well, long story short, the guy gives me a quote. $11,700 for the box,(with the stainless top ) and like 3500 for the riser/hutch. I was ready to leave, my dealer said this guy was gonna give sick deals!

Well then he starts showing me the discounts,4400 for my box,a 15 year old KRL1001, free hutch,WHAT?!, thats right, FREE,ok now I'm paying attention.Another couple grand in rebates,"customer loyalty and I'm really paying attention.
Well bottom line, he hands me a number of $4000.00 plus tax for an Extreme Green KRL1023 with stainless top and riser. No joke. When I was able to speak, all I could say was, how can I say no?

A coworker got the same deal on a black one. Mine was delivered about a week ago, his is supposed to come next week.

So anyways, How does Snap-on do this? Is there that much mark up in their boxes?( Wouldn't surprise me)
Or are they planning on making it up on the financing? Cuz they aren't making anything on me, I'm paying that thing in full.

All I know is the guy that delivered it had a truckload of Snap-on boxes and he said he has been delivering them like crazy. My dealer said the factory in Iowa is running 3 shifts to keep up with demand. Anyone else see this truck? My dealer says he will get it again, I guess he sold a couple boxes with it. The only thing for him, I guess he doesn't make a dime on the sale, he just gets the trades.
Here's a couple pics. The green looks so much better in person. And if you don't believe the price, I got pics of that too. I actually got a better deal because my dealer gave me $750 for a KRL1011 cabinet that I was gonna sell. That got me down to $3390.00. Not bad for around 15k list.

My dealer was speechless too. He didn't think they would give that kind of deals.

Lol, yea that was the quote before they ran my credit. Worst case scenario I guess. Doesn't matter to me, I'm waiting for my dealer to come back from vacation, then I'm gonna pay it off.

Thats a sweet box, I like the silver but I fell in love with that green. I was told 4-6 weeks but it was 2-1/2 months. My coworker ordered cranberry, then switched it to black and he's still waiting.Actually his cranberry hutch was on the truck with my box but my dealer warned me and asked me to refuse it Must be a big demand for black.

Yeah Snap-On is pushing some very good deals right now. That toolbox truck came to my work a couple months ago, lots of bling. Good thing you're paying it off quick, look at the interest on the note.......27.999% :yikes: Nice box Though, great upgrade and like that extreme green more and more!

The past few months they have been offering good deals on boxes. Seems the higher you go the more discounts they offer... I bought a KRA top and bottom and got about 1300$ off and a 300$ gift card as a bonus.

I figure they're overstocked and trying to move some goods or the dealers want to push boxes. Either way that's a very very nice box you bought and for the price its almost free !!

maybe they figure the bigger the box they push the more tools they'll sell filling them. Doesnt sound like overstock if people are waiting months but i do agree the markup on truck boxes is probably very very "healthy" for Snap-On.

I think Snap-On is starting to figure out that they are priced out of their target customers average income/comfort level. It's hard to move the very large high end tool storage so cut good deals........sell boxes, go figure.

Maybe some of their advertising budget went towards getting more boxes out there.

Wooooow...that's really a "deal you can't refuse". I guess I don't have enough to trade in (or probably enough years of "customer loyalty" or whatever it takes to get $2K off for nothing) to get a deal like that, but if I did? Oh yeah, I'd be all over it. Box like that, I'd even pay extra to have it painted in Porsche's "Speed Yellow", smudges be damned. That's a box and a half, I wouldn't be able to shove $4K into his pocket fast enough.

Are we allowed to use the "you ****" line on brand new purchases?

Yeah, they came by last year but I didn't bite, although I don't think the discounts were quite as hefty. If they had been, I'd probably be paying off a box right now. :willy_nil

That truck is coming to Houston here in June I think. My SO guy was telling me he is going to follow him around for the day. Being that I am not a mechanic, I am taking off work for the day to make sure I can hang out for a while and see the boxes I want to see.

I can't wait to see so many toolboxes in one place. I am actually one of those weird people and likes to walk around something to get feel for the size, color etc. It is very hard to buy something like that from a paper print out.

Also OP, great choice on color that or the Orange is what I want, it is kinda a toss up, but I want one of them.

OP to answer one of your questions about the mark-up in the boxes, I am sure there is some there. But what if they blow these boxes out at fire-sale savings, BUT make it all back up on the other end - selling you tools to fill up that nice new spacious box? I mean with all that new space you have now, you have room for all that other stuff you have been wanting... amiright?

I don't know about you, but unless it is a advertised deal my SO dealer does not just give me tools at cost+10% b/c he likes me.

I am sure that at 28% interest they are getting some of that too.

Another thing to keep in mind is that all the major brands offer tech-ed pricing at 48% off of retail, meaning that they have a pretty hefty profit margin to begin with, hence why they can offer these "crazy deals"

Beautiful box. Love the color and the price.
Snap On like any company that sells stuff on credit makes a lot of money on that 27.99% interest. They are borrowing money at prime plus so their cost of the money is a couple of percent they put it on the street in the form of toolboxes and turn somewhere around 25% interest.

From my life as and information technology consultant I have seen a o lot of businesses from the inside. I can tell you that small lenders like the corner consumer loan company and the furniture store that finances your TV and living room have considerably better collection numbers than the big banks. You can be 2 months late on the house payment before someone from the bank contacts you but miss the weekly payment on the toolbox and you will probably hear from the dealer if he is any good.

You will do well to pay this off fast.

Sheet metal and some paint, well made, but sheet metal and some paint for $4K plus they resell your old box and on most people they make tons of $ on the financing. The part that everybody else pointed out is that they want you to buy their tools to fill the boxes and on most people they have the interest on those as well.

The other piece is by doing this and taking your old boxes in trade is that they try to regain some control over the used box market that is really eating into their profits.

I am not mad at their strategy, and Snap-On is a mostly american made company and it is good to see they are smart enough to figure out some new ways to make money and it seems like everybody is happy so good stuff.

I hope you enjoy your new tool box. I for one I am no fan of that color green, but that is why they make em in tons of colors now.

Maybe it's just me being a cheap ***....but I did all my considerable working life with mostly no name boxes. Yes I was in the auto industry for over 45 yrs. I just can't get off that kind of money for a tool box. I could buy something that drives for that kind of cash.

well actually the other bonus to me getting a new box is that they gave me 3 times what I thought I could get for my box.

at first i thought... classic... pump up the value of my box on a trade in to make me feel great and do the trade.

then after making the deal, this tech comes to my shop with a tape measure and measures my box

i ask him what he paid... he paid what my trade in value is (well pretty close to it).

why did he do that? snapon credit no doubt... that allows my box to sell at it's maximum value.... something i could never achieve on craigslist... it's just way too much money even at the lowest price range for people to have in their hands to buy your box... my potential buyers pool is too small.... so what happens... if i want to unload my box... i get lowballed to hell... i have to **** around with people phoning... not showing up... giving me **** about the condition of my box to further low ball me

then there is the fact that the market is flooded with older krl's and there are what i call the "professional" resellers of used boxes that dominate the craigslist where i am - i tried selling a new classic box a couple of years ago and they kept getting my ad delisted... happens all the time to other boxes...it's a bit of a toolbox mafia tactic

not to mention.... scrotes coming around to check out my box and tools!

the way i see it.... i win two ways.... i scored an incredible upgrade at a great price... but hell.... i saved so much frustration on selling my box.... probably even more of the bonus on the deal

Driving a SO Truck in Burlington, Ont.
The Rock'N'Roll Cab Express.....

I'm a SO franchisee in Ontario Canada. We just got 2 R&R Express Cab Trucks in Ontario (Ont. East & Ont. West) these trucks were new for us as of a month ago. My route in Ontario East had the first run, and it was a huge success. The truck is beautiful, great lay out, lighting, displays of each of our levels of tool storage, accessories, add ons etc. The R&R Express driver is a trained tool storage expert and is an employee of SO. The driver is prepared to answer any question, and also does a very nice presentation about our tool storage, very informative. Along with tool storage knowledge, the driver has authorization to put together some pretty amazing deals. All of my customers left the truck feeling they were listened to, and received deals they were very comfortable with.

I highly recommend, if the opportunity presents its self, to participate with the Rock'N'Roll Express program. I have the RR Express returning to my territory later next month, and am thinking of adding a third date down the road, as I'm already booked up 6 weeks in advance.

Being a SO franchisee, my customers come first. I consider most of them my friends. I always help them make the right decision, not only now, but for down the road as well. There is no commitment doing a Tool Storage survey, and going onto the R&R Express Cab. The R&R Express show cases our tool storage in a way most techs will never see any other place.

About this high interest talk.. (I can only speak for Canadian customers) Our standard interest rate is 18.50%(up to 5 year term). 25.5% (Credit Start Rate, 3year term, for customers with no credit history). and 9.9%( up to 5 year term, for customers with very good credit, only some franchisees can do 9.9% - ask your franchisee first).

These are simple interest rates, interest based on length of term, with no penalty for paying out early (shorter the term, less the interest) Snap-On credit also has instant rebates that add to you savings, we also in some cases have tool Certificates. Talk to your franchisee / dealer for a more in depth explanation

Snap-On credit is nothing to be afraid of. If managed properly and explained properly, can be very useful.

Talk to your local dealer and ask him or her, and if they don't know, put them to task and have them find out.

Please remember.. my post is not the final say, as I'm in Canada with different credit laws and programs, I also have the highest level of SO Credit program capabilities (will vary from dealer to dealer).

I don't post to often, but I feel Snap-On Credit is not always understood. And, The Rock'N'Roll Express is awesome. (O.K. now back to my Holiday Monday - Victoria Day - stocking and organizing my truck:beer:)

Wow, that is a great deal. They are very smart though. Most of these guys probably didn't need a new box and not in the market but the deal seems so good its hard to pass up. They just found a way to get a customer spent 2-4k even though there is no way these folks would normally buy a new box. Guess it shows how much markup there is in these boxes. Then can can sell your trade in too and may make money off it if they finance it. Seems like a win win for both sides.

You got a good deal, about 2 years ago I got $6500 for my 10 yr old krl 761 towards the 1023B, all said and done I got 6500 for a box I paid 2000 for used, and paid 3800 for my 1023b, back then the price was around 10.5 or so.
