Snap-on Tool Box - what's it worth

Hi All - looking at a bottom and top unit as follows:

KRL1003BPFP
KRL1203BPFP

i don't know enough about SO model numbers to know the age, but i am guessing it is older than 10 years old - the seller bought it used and doesn't know the age either

the unit is in good used condition - it had side cabinets on both sides that are gone but have left some scratches - one ding on the bottom edge, front (all from pictures, have not seen unit in person but will) - represented to work perfectly well all slides, casters, etc

what are your views as to a reasonable price on a unit like this?

PS: i think this box is from 2000 as a millennium Masters Elite special edition box - perhaps that was evident from the model numbers.......not sure

Mfg. date should be on back side of box. Look up new retail price on Snap On web site. Then based on condition value would be 20% - 40% max of new msrp. Special edition / paint add nothing to value IMO

modern equivalents are krl1023 and krl1203b
current retail is 21K

looking at pictures below, would you say this is in good, fair or poor condition

Lot of dings on that. Looks like fair to good to me. Do the drawers slide smooth? If so, I say three grand. (If you were asking how much to ask if you were selling, the answer would be different)

I'd say $4-6K myself. Maybe a little more. See what other triple bank models are going for in your local craigslist. Prices vary by region. Those bigger boxes are a hard sell too. Not many people have the cash to afford them up front.

for a bottom and top model, anywhere from 8-10 (again, in much better condition)

3K seems really low...hell there is absolute ancient single top bottom or double bank only boxes at that price???

4 to 6 appears accurate as we are in that range

was hoping someone might have said higher to think i was getting a deal...but it sounds like it is at market

for what it is worth, his asking price was 7.5K

Good luck to him for someone even willing to give him 5K in cash for that set up. I'd start at 3K and possibly go up to 4K, depending on how bad you wanted it. Myself, I wouldn't be happy with one in that kind of shape.

If you love the color and the triple bank top and bottom configuration then try to make a deal. I would shoot for like 5 or 6. It doesn't look terrible but could definitely use someone to put a few hours into cleaning it up and applying a coat of wax.

Funny, I found it on Ebay while searching for what others like it are listed for. I have to say I have never been a fan of any of the special edition Snap On boxes with extra graphics or badging. I think it makes em' look cheap. Of course I'm not the guy who stickers up my box or trucks back window either so to each his own. I have to say though, before i'd even consider $7500 for this one I would be all over this Black 68" Epiq with full side locker currently listed @ $6500 with a "make offer" option in the listing!!

Based on the fair quality pictures I'd say it is in fair condition. Paint looks dull, lots of minor digs on the trim and what not, gaps at the one corner, and bent edges along the bottom from the side cabinets?

No way would I spend 5K, let alone 7.5K on that.

I paid $2250 for my 07 krl1022 in good but used conditon...for me as long as there was no rust and everything worked properly i was happy..i still see people asiking $3k and up for the smaller krl722 so i was happy with my purchase

My issue with these older boxes in the way they are configured. The top box to me is a negative. No one wants to stand on a stool to get something out of the upper drawers. I believe hutches for a laptop, writing desk, etc. are much more popular today. I would rather holdout for a more modern KRL and with the budget you're describing you'll find one.

There has been a similar one for sale on local CL (Indiana) for months at $8000. Based on my 20-40 % in post #2 I think $4000 assuming it is a box you could get maximum use of the lay out.

That bottom roller has an outdated drawer layout.The reason I like my KRL1022,is that I have two full length drawers(two bank)and the top drawer on mine looks to be be much taller.That combo to me is not worth any more than $1500.I would keep looking for a much newer version.

I wouldn't pony up that amount of cash on that box. It's fair condition at best and if that's your budget there's much better options on newer models. It's not a bad box by any means and if it was mint I'd consider but the condition is kind of the deciding factor.

also 2001 are the notorious ****** paint years , odds are the paint is peeling along the bottom

In the end that is exactly how I came out

I didn't know about the paint issue but leaving that aside it is a great box if it were in outstanding condition but not great at that price for the condition it's in

So I arrived at the same place
