Snap On Tool Box Wraps

The wife is going to buy me a snap on box this week as a birthday present. I like the special edition boxes with the wrap/graphics, but I read an article that the wraps on cars is only supposed to have a lifespan of five years. Thus I wonder if a standard painted box may be a better long term investment. Even though I don't plan on selling it, life is full of #$%@.

Any advice or insight appreciated.

You want a box, get a nice KRL. Don't waste the time and money on one of those gfx box's.

You want something unique get a 90th anniversary EPIQ box.

The boxes are painted black underneath. Also remember the wraps on cars are exposed to sunlight. So eventually you'll and up with a matte finish black box.

Do yourself a favor and get a solid colored box without the stupid-*** themes or graphics.

i consider the wraps a protective covering to keep the box looking great for many years and if you get tired of it one day, you could peel the stuff off. it took me about 10 minutes to fully remove a wrap from a krl722. customer wanted a black box so the wrap was taken off and he had his black box....
what box is she getting you?

I am going to get a classic 78 box. She is a keeper. When I was moving my Craftsman Chest into the garage I rented (just for our business use, not professional) I found the receipt where she bought it for me in 1990. I think maybe with 1 child and 1 new baby and an airline job that was always on the rocks, the $300 for that box was as much as the $3k today.

that would look good when you walk into a shop or in your garage. they make neon that you can attach with a magnet to put under neath it.
the neon may be a stretch but if it is in your garage at home then it would look awesome

I rented a garage in a former moving company storage center. It is about 1/2 mile from my house. It is 30x30 with 20 ft ceilings and a bathroom for my kidney stones
My daughters call it my apartment.

I needed a shop for work. I own 2 tobacco/beer/slot machine stores and 2 self serve car washes. ( well the bank lets me pretend they are mine). Having somewhere to store and work on my 67 Chevelle in a bonus.

I sold one of those Glomad boxes. They do look cool.

I just traded my "Tempest" box in which had big graphic stickers all over the front and inside the lid. I forget when that limited edition came out - maybe 2003 - 2004???...anyway, That box lived a rough life in a working shop and still looked really good last week when it left....Nothing had started to fade or look bad in any way except for the fine, almost imperceptible, mist overspray that layed on all the top surfaces when my boss decided to do a little paint work without covering it up....I would not hesitate to buy any of the "wraps" if you really like it. But, I WILL say that I went with a regular red box this time because I started out wanting to add a side cabinet only to discover nothing matched the old Tempest box's black cherry color - so I traded up for a whole new setup.

I know this is an old thread, but when removing wrap, is it gloss or flat black underneath?

Tool Box Wraps are gay. Remember how cool people thought mustard yellow and baby poop green appliances were in the '70's, or Hot Pink in the early '90's, thats what you will have in 15 years... a quality box with a trendy look that is out of style.

That is the reason I went ahead and bought one with a wrap. First it was discounted, then I thought if I ever tired of it or it became damaged I could remove it. I even ended up buying a top box that was gloss black.

Next time my dealer has a discounted sale I am going to add an end locker.


I am so pleased with it, plus the snap on tools and box is like money in the bank. If I take care of it (I have seen some nasty ones for sale) I can get cash back if I get hard up. I do want to mention I am not a professional mechanic.

You could always have the wrap changed if you don't like it later. I'm thinking of wrapping my electric orange box or at least parts of it. I just want to see how it looks
