great find. cleaning it up is the fun part. i'd most likely try to keep the original paint intact.

i saw a shop throwing away a Snap-on box.

Yet another sign the apocalypse is upon us. My wife is going to a bible study on Revelations this evening. I'll ask her to ask the assembled group to pray for us.

Who the hell throws a toolbox away?

I picked up a no name roller cabinet off the curb years ago. Eventually sold it for a few bucks. It's easier to roll it out to the street than put it in the CL free section.

We can see the value in the OP's free box but most people would see a rusty old toolbox as junk worth next to nothing.

I had an old Napa chest (at the time they were supplied by Remline) whose cabinet was somehow tweaked out of square making the drawers tough to open and close and I gave it away when I got tired enough of it that I bought a replacement...

I don't understand how folks can't take better care of their stuff. That is a good box that obviously needs some TLC. I found one in similar shape at a salvage company. After some love and time it looks like this now. Cost $500.00 some paint, primer, and sandpaper and I have a box that will last a lifetime.

They look nice. What paint and primer did you use? I'm in process of restoring one now and keep tossing around the idea of using regular oil-based enamel from Tractor Supply vs ordering special automotive paint.

I used automotive paint on the boxes. PPG DP90 Epoxy primer, PPG surfacing primer. Used the paint code off the label to order the Red, which came up as Snap On Red enamel. I am no professional painter but was happy how it came out. I did a little color sanding and buffing after painting to clear up some orange peel.

Guys like me who don't want to take a chance on having the wrong person see what's up. I'd rather give it away or toss it then take a chance for a couple hundred bucks. :p

looks just like the KR1000/KR1100 combo that I just brought home from the auction 2 days ago, except that yours is shinier and has less scratches.
mine isn't 'beat up" as much as faded and scratched, and there is some black stuff on it, I do not think it is paint, looks like it may be some sort of lube that the PO tried on the slides, and got all over the place. Brake cleaner on a rag seems to be taking it right off.

At $500, you also paid about 1/2 of what I did, while I paid about 1/2 of what I have seen on CL locally and recently for the same combo, some of looked much worse than what I got.... I am in the process of cleaning the grit out of all the slides and lubing them up, and cleaning the box in all the places that can be seen easily but access is better with the drawers out.... also working on getting new detents for all the slides.
I have to get it cleaned up, lubed up and loaded up so that I can reclaim some floor and workbench space as the other 2 smaller boxes that I have had for several years, are simply now too small. so no time for the paint job I'd like to give it...

Nice job on the box. Please turn camera to the left about 90 degrees and take multiple pictures. Any Mopar with that 440 marking needs more pics.

On another note send the guy who threw it away pics after you restore it. That should be his punishment

Hell yeah, nice job. Bend those drawers back on shape, paint it, grease up the sliders and that box will last you a lifetime. Plus it makes a cool story.

I'm not nearly as good with computers as I am with plain ol' mechanical things... but even if I get lucky with them, I aint gonna try at the moment, I have it all apart, I cleaned up the slides and am waiting on a couple new slides from Snap on and new detents and bumpers from the company that Snap on contracted the slides from... all N/C under warranty.... I'll try, once I get these and get the box back together

hey guys been pretty busy with school and all and yesterday was one of the first days i actually got a chance to fix the box. today my dad got all new slides and tracks from his snap on guy.the only thing left is the two locking wheels and the the lock and key which i should get by next week. He also ordered some new trim for the drawers so hopefully we get some work done on the box this weekend. New York's weather has been bi polar lately:shocking:

Spend some time on the Government Liquidation website using the search term "tool box".
