Hi All, Forgive me for perhaps posting this in the wrong place, BUT I came across this on Facebook Marketplace today, and I reached out to the guy. I have no clue if he will respond, but in the mean time, I thought I would possibly ask you guys for an Idea on valuation/an offer to make if he does get back to me.

Conveniently, this is literally 1 town over from me. It is a bit more box than I probably need, but I could probably figure something out for it all.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplac...e=marketplace_search&referral_story_type=post

Long and short of it, it is a 73x30 Top and bottom, 37 drawer set up, Ford Motor Company branded PTS Master Tech Box. Looking at the stickers, I would guess it is a late 1990's model/early 2000. he wants 5900 for it.

Thanks for any ideas (And thanks for telling me if I need to post this elsewhere!)

Marc

That doesn't sound out of line to me, ask for the numbers on the upper right hand corner (looking from the front) model# and year will be there.
Nice box.

Went from in line to a steal, eesh :) ? I wouldn't bring cash first meeting anyway, but you make a good point about a cop buddy. I do have a few armed family members...

I doubt the guy will reach back out, we will see.

Speaking of scams (That for sure are a scam)

Matco Box listed local to me

Matco tool box for roughly 2x price, listed on ebay in California

My guess is the real listing is the one on Ebay, the price on the local one seems absurdly low

Why doesn't it show the guys name and why does it show a drawer with tools in it but no mention of tools included, seems a little strange to me.

Where would his name be? On FBM? I don't have facebook, so I am not logged in. It might show his name, through a different screen. But yeah, all in all, there are some oddities.

But given the age of the box I thought the price MIGHT be reasonable

FWIW, the pictures don't turn up in reverse image searches. Who knows. We will see

So I talked to the guy who is selling it, here is the story.

he worked for snap on in program management for 10 years and worked on the master tech program specifically for FMC for a few years doing the full scale roll out. This box was an over build from that program, he bought it from the company at a good price decades ago, and he has used it in his house for years. Never seen a shop or other type of abuse.
I am popping down to see it this afternoon, will see how that goes!

Box seems nice. Custom color blue, gold trim (not my favorite) here are the stickers in the back if each

Nice guy, nice setup. We have a handshake price, 5500. I have to figure transportation, and told him I would confirm by tomorrow if I pull the trigger.

Only issue with the box I can see is the gas struts in the top 2 boxes need replaced. But I can just call snap infor those right?

Any things I should consider?

I am 75% convinced in this one all in all, but could use some other advice

I doubt I would let it get away at $5500, as far as the struts I'm sure you could do a little digging and find them for a third of what SO will probably want. Might even be a part number on them.

Are they not covered by warranty? Good point about additional research

Wouldn't hurt to try but at that price I wouldn't really care, my last box, a double stack like that the pistons were clapped out only had rarely used tools up there as I needed something to stand on anyway.
Early congrats!

Well, call em crazy, but I am passing on this. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it work in the garage. It will fit, but I have come to realize that I need a work surface of some sort other than my table saw. And I can't figure out how to incorporate that with this set up, I would need to remove the top box and out it.... somewhere!? And then get or make a top. Just doesn't seem practical
If anyone is I terested in the set, Brian(seller) seems like a great guy, I am glad to act as a temporary Intermediary.

I have decided that I am going to go with a Tool vault xl 84. Which is what I have been struggling with, but I THINK that is the best choice. Can always add a box on top of that and still have a workspace if I need to!
