I have a Classic 78 that I am selling because I don't need it. Closed down my motorcycle shop. I also see a ton on Ebay, Craigslist and FB Marketplace that don't seem to be moving.

Have they fallen out of favor? Or is it that the only ones buying them are buying them off the truck because of the payment plans?

All depends on price. The Classic KRA is 24" deep. KRL's are 30" deep. The extra 6 inches makes a huge difference in desirability, in my opinion.

I paid $1000 for my KRL 1001, it was a good deal. I routinely see Classic 78's for $1200 to $1800, and they sit. and sit. and sit. Don't know what they actually sell for, once the owners get tired of waiting. But, put it out there for $900 firm, and it will go fast.

If I could get a KRL for $1500 to $1800, and a KRA for $1000, I'd go with the KRL every time. That's why your market seems stagnant. Only way to stir up some interest is get the price down a bit so someone will say to themselves "$650 Harbor freight 56", $900 Snap-on, maybe I'll pay a bit more". You get up to twice the price of HF, and they'll start saying "I could have TWO for the price of one". And then cheap out and buy one.

At 40% off, a KRA costs about $3000 off the truck, financed. Maybe even better on the rock and roll truck annual sale or a trade in deal. Trying to get half of that is hard when it's enough money that most can't cash it out. They'll finance off the truck instead.

Pretty much this. Masters and Epiq have much better resale than the lower tier boxes.

You may have better luck advertising in a tech school or somewhere young people who are early in their career are. They are the target for the classic and heritage lines.

Some SO dealers are willing to sell for commissions too. I’ve sold a few boxes via the tool guys.

:spit:

Yes, having had both they're almost not comparable.

KRAs dont have as much demand or value. When you see boxes sitting for ever and ever on craigslist, they're overpriced, plain and simple. Classic 78, try around 1500 and go down from there. Why not just keep it and use it for the rest of your life?

Payments help too, and high dollar amounts limit you maximum price. Who has 5k to spend on a tool box, all at once in cash, off some guy on craigslist? Idiots on my local CL list double bay epiqs for $7500 and basic 7XX series KRLs for 4k. Or the guy who's selling his lifetime collection of tools and box, for $65,000. Let me just grab that from an ATM. :wtf:

I started at at $1500 a week ago. Might be time to lower the price. I don't have room for it in my garage, that's why I'm selling. Plus I can use the money for a welder which is what I want.

I hate to say it, but the quality of the import boxes and most importantly the newly implemented depth of 22” has changed the value of the Snap-On boxes. When The USITC changed the rules...now you have depth similar to pro boxes...at a fraction of the cost.
