I picked up my first batch of mostly older Snap on sockets, 250 or so and I have been sorting them into sets i want to complete and part out or sell off. I cant post them to the classifieds as Im new to the boards but Im asking if there is anybody on here that is sitting deep in spares that might be interested in doing a swap on a fairly large scale to help fill in some sets. Im working on a the list of what i have and need today and pouring through the classifieds and ebay . I was looking for a site that trades in this stuff but finding someone who already does that would be a lot easier.

Im just trying to put myself together a pretty complete set for my personal use without breaking the bank. first step on my journey away from craftsman.

by the way, my name is Sean and I have a tool problem...

Thanks

Welcome to GJ!
I can't help you - my whole inventory of sockets of all brands is somewhere around your number of Snappies alone! I'm sure there are members who are deep enough to make trading an attractive process. You might also post in the Garage Sale Thread, also in this forum, and remember, no pix it never happened!!

everything is cheaper in bulk right? I like to buy quantity to get the price down, then i end up piecing it all together but thats ok too.

I bought a real nice set of old electrolite tools and SK from a gentleman that was retiring from the trades. good news it was really complete. kind of neat find as lectrolite was a very local brand made in defiance oh just before they threw in with SK

I'll give you a bit of unsolicited advice. For perspective, here's a link to my thread on sockets and sorting out and hoarding: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=333660

I'd take the sockets you have, sort out what you think you might want to keep for yourself, and then put the rest on ebay, one at a time, on auction starting at $2.99 and $2.80 postage. Let them sell for whatever they sell for, and use the money to buy the missing ones from your sets or to buy complete sets on ebay.

Trying to make up a complete assortment of sets from random sockets is hard work. You could easily accumulate 2500 Snap-on sockets buying in lots before you get anywhere near your goal of sets. It's definitely not worth the time it takes, unless you're a collector trying to accumulate a particular set and you see the time it involves as a recreational activity.

I've sold probably about 2000 sockets in the past year and a half. I probably have better than 1000 left; I counted the other day and I have 37 sets sorted out to go, along with a lot of singles. I'll be real glad when they're all gone, and I'm highly resisting buying any more.

Good luck with your project!

Thats kind of where i am today, i think if I ebay them i can get rid of my surplus faster and fill in the holes quicker and get back to work on my drag car. I did find a guy on ebay with as much stuff as I seem to have who is interested in helping me fill my holes for one money then i can just start listing my extras.

your exactly right , i don't have the time to become a collector i just need to finish this project and move on to something else. My problem is i have nearly unlimited space, I build industrial buildings, so my hoarding get out of hand on a larger scale. open space tends to generate stuff to fill it...

SSDave I have the same problem as you. I bought some large lots at auction but discovered that most are duplicates. Mine are mostly Craftsman also. I have sold some local and given some away. I separated the Snapon, Mac and Cornwell for myself. They seem to cost more than they are worth to ship. I gave up for now. I have too many other things to do.

Hey there. I'm in.
I've got a few sets I'm trying to fill out with the same year codes. Will post a list of the ones I'm looking for. Will also get together an inventory of what I have that I'd be good with parting with.

for 50.00 you can become a Alliance member which allows you to sell on this site with out having to have 100 posts. I am afraid that the Mods. will delete you or your posts for listing like you are trying to sell here.
I too have some spare snap on socket and need some to complete sets. I think there is a thread that is a sticky that some one has listed spare sockets to trade. You might look for that. Sticky's are listed at the top of each section. Richard

revised "need" list

½” drive 12 pt shallow SW series need 3/8

½” drive metric 12 pt shallow 20 and up tw series nice condition

½ drive metric deep 6 pt tsm series 11, 16, 17,19 and 21 up nice

3/8 drive 12 pt shallow metric 12 pt fm series 7, 14 ,15 average condition

3/8 deep 6 pt sf series ¼, 15/16, 1”

Been scouring ebay and picking up a couple at a time here and there and got the list knocked down a ways, still a ways to go.

i will look for that thread Richard, im getting close to ready to start getting rid of my duplicates as well. with a little luck this weekend I will have some time to reorganize my box and figure out where i'm at.
