If a box full of snap on tools is worth $40k+ what is a TRUCK full of tools worth?!

OK, the truck is leased and it only vaguely mentions that payments will need to be made. It would be cool to know the actual terms. :bounce:

Probably doesn't include they inventory either...Snap On probably still owns that.

i was told by 2 dealers. that the truck owner owns all tools.

my matco guy sold his truck/route. he said that matco will not let him sell the trucks tools to the new owner. he has to get rid of them any way he can, except sell them to the new owner. i then told him about craigslist. he said matco requires the new owner to buy a "starter kit" of tools to get started.

There's a Mac truck for sale outside Ft. Wayne, IN (I was driving through yesterday). $7500. I'm sure it doesn't include tools.

OTOH, maybe it does! :bounce::shocking:

that does not include the money owed by the customers. that could be really high...

Depends on the route. N.E. Portland has more than one. I seem to remember a "Clint" from way back when I had a business in the area.

It makes you wonder why the guy is getting out of the business.

I have a neighbor who is getting out of the Matco biz. He told me that he spends more time trying to collect money than sell tools. Sounds like a lot of frustration.

I looked into buying a Snap-on franchise a while back. It was well into 6 figures. Almost a year later, the route is still for sale. In this economy, I can't imagine it selling anytime soon or being a worthwhile investment.

Wow, now that's a seriously messed up, crappy deal!

well, seems matco doesn't want to sell tools to "just" the end user.

and. he offered me his 6s 2 bay for $4000. list $7500 + tax/shipping, so he said.
i am in the market for a box. but $2000 is my MAX.

The only two SO salesman I have ever dealt with did pretty darn good for themselves. They may have had a lot of luck along the way as well as making many right decisions. Times are tough these days and tool trucks are rapidly becoming the thing of the past.

I do think there will be a resurgeance in the future though. Just like the auto industry people will need quality tools again and sooner than later.

yeah, they used to do pretty well for themselves. but times are tough these days.
many guys are not getting raises, even inflation raises. and some guys are even getting paid less take home pay, me included. because of obamas health insurance thing. the rates are going up, and the boss doesn't want to foot the whole bill. so my pay goes down.
and then there are the guys who work for commission = less cars, less pay.

I stepped on the new mac guys truck ( the lights were not on to begin with ) to see how he was doing. He too said they had to start out with a starter set. He had lots and lots of little items, but nothing substantial. The truck was at about 55-60% full. Lots of room and his toolboxes were so wrapped up with plastic that you could not tell what they were. he is going to have a tough time keeping shop like that.
One of the matco guys here keeps as much **** on his truck as he does tools so he has lots of foot traffic.
