That's an entry level box. There are a lot better boxes than the heritage and classic series snap-on's for a lot less money. For 1500 dollars or a bit more you could probably find a krl, which would be a very worthwhile buy.

Considering it's $2500 for a new Heritage roll cab, not including the top chest, I think that's a great deal..

But that box is not new and he's not buying it from the snap on man who takes payments. Cash money used tool boxes are a LOT cheaper than off the truck. I think if I wanted to sell my triple bay KRL I'd be very lucky to get $2500, and I'm not sure it would bring that.

I realize it's not new. And if you have to make payments on a $1500 toolbox, maybe you shouldn't be buying it... All the guy is asking is if it's a good deal, and in MY opinion, the price isn't far off. It'd be over $5000 brand new, no matter how you look at it. For $1500, can you really go wrong? Sure, you COULD wait and try to find a better deal, but depending on location, deals can be few and far between. Personally, I'd go for it.

That would be a decent deal in my area. All I can find on Craigslist are new boxes for about 25% off the cost of retail. I don't think people want to accept what their boxes are actually worth.

I agree that it's hard to find the bargains locally, but they do come up. If you have to have a box right now and that one is big enough that you won't outgrow it too soon then go for it. It's not a bad deal. However, if you can wait for a large roll cab at that price you won't have to worry about outgrowing it as much because you can add onto it easier.

I (re)started using Searchtempest to search CL since there's so few Snappy boxes coming up nearby lately. One of the areas that pops up in the 400 miles default radius is NJ/NY, and just... wow. The ones in NY were asking almost new prices. :wtf: I'd look at making a road trip if I were you and had the means to transport a box. Not so much that you could get something similar for a whole lot less, more that you could get something better for not much more.

I realize it's not new. And if you have to make payments on a $1500 toolbox, maybe you shouldn't be buying it... What they sell for new, obscenely overpriced and on credit, is 110% irrelevant to what used ones are worth. If I'm paying cash for a new box off the truck, rest assured, I ain't paying MSRP or anywhere close, and I'm getting what I want, in the color I want.

They're worth whatever the going rate is... whatever people are willing to pay. A KRL722 is $5600 new, but good luck getting over $2500, and that's if you find a sucker and it's like new. Really, most seem to be worth ~50% of MSRP, if they're in excellent condition. This is where I'd usually say "that's why I'll never buy a new toolbox", but if too many people catch on, there'll be a shortage of used ones. :lol_hitti

I am in DFW area and don't see too many triple bay KRL's for under $3k. More common are two bay KRL models for between $1700-$2800. I bought my triple bay KRL with stainless top and drawer protectors and hutch for $3k and thought it was a pretty good deal.

Looking at that box and from the picture only I would think $800-$1000? He does say its in excellent condition so maybe more if you like that model.

I was making my normal semi-local CL rounds this morning and someone has just listed the same box you're looking at.

http://carbondale.craigslist.org/tls/3542157097.html

That box is actually close to years older the then the one the OP is looking at and friction slides. I would say $1500 isn't a bad price. I would offer $1000 and go from there. Once again I can't stand the hate for kra's. Just because it is not 30" deep doesn't make it a beginer box. Is it marketed to tech students at half price, yes, but that it is just a total market ploy to get them brand loyal to buy a $12,000 epiq in two years. the built quailty of a kra will hold up for anybody, especialy at home. If you base a pro box on size alone, my 54" wide KRL is dwarf by 72" extreme and montazomas, maybe I need to upgrade.

There's nothing wrong with KRA series boxes-had a 4107/4114 combo with a side locker for 5 years-used as main work box for first couple of years, then changed fields and brought it home. Quality is very good, absolutely no probs with it. If you don't need all of the SS trim and don't need a 30" deep box,it's the way to go.
The price for that box isn't bad-offer a grand and see where it goes. One thing to watch though-there is a lot of Sandy salvage stuff on Jersey Shore CL right now....

Unless you are talking about boxes that are trying to be fake KRLs, a KRA will smoke any 40" box out there.

I have been buying and selling estates and businesses for 45 years. There are a lot of boxes that will blow that one out of the water and at less than half of the price. Show me the difference between that one and the Harbor Freight 42 inch box. I just picked up a HF 42 inch base with 2 side boxes for $400 and they look brand new. I would not go over $800 on that box if I wanted a snappie box. A months ago a 96 inch Sanp-on box sold for $2950 on E bay. It was in NY, NY It was mint.
