Snap-on toolbox help

I look forward to using this forum ,
I have a snap on tool box , I was told at time of purchase it had lifetime warranty 1988 ? . My problem is after all this time and use , the runners from the sides have given up , so I need to claim on the warranty , he has offered me £200 as a credit against a new box, so much for spending £500 ? Back in 1988 , is my snap on man taking the p1ss or what ,
Any ideas of what I could do to fix it ?

I would email snap-on direct. Worth a shot. You still have the receipt. A Life Time Warranty is what it is.

SO probably doesn't even make the parts to fix it anymore. Also no they won't just trade it for a new box. Anything they give you above scrap will probably be a straight loss.

I know someone that had a old KRA21C Hand Box that the slides looked like that. Snap-on gave them a new KRA21G at no charge. They even paid shipping both ways.

a couple years ago my SO industrial rep was able to get me a few of those rails.
he knew I had no problem welding them on so good was good.

if it was me I would look at a couple of options.
if SO does not have that part available anymore and I wanted to keep that box. I would see if they would give you a couple of the ball bearing glides from a later box with the same depth drawer then just convert it over.

if you really wanted to fix that box those pieces could be made by a good sheet metal guy. I have a magnetic brake that could make them

If I ever saw a legitimate lifetime warranty case, this is it. I'd contact SO corporate directly and explain the situation to them, with the photo's you have would be excellent.

You got a lot of leverage with that original receipt. I would expect Snap-on to replace the entire box with a comparable unit out of today's catalog.

I'm probably in the minority here but I don't see that as a warrantee issue. Are you going to claim it's a defect in material or workmanship? Looks to me that it's worn out and at the end of it's useful life. To expect that Snap On would give you a new box seems unrealistic. My .02 cents.

If you break it day one or 30 years later a warranty is a warranty. You payed for 2 boxes up front, just like all their tools

If the slides wearout on a KRL they send you new slides. So what is the difference? This box had slides that are not replaceable. So replace the box.

I was able to get new slides for my KR557/KR537 with a phone call. I also have the original receipts for the boxes, mine are from 1978 and were my dad's. He must've put heavy stuff in the larger drawers as the slides for those were tweaked a bit.
