Snap-On Toolbox Key Numbers for Replacement Keys

Wanted to check for sure before I try to order keys.

The number needed to make a new key is the one stamped on the outside (visible side) of the lock?

The pictures below are the two locks the old KR557 and KR547 boxes I'm cleaning up. Seem to both be V20 although one could be Y20.

Suggestions for the best place to order keys? I found an old thread here that mentioned this site https://www.ldvusa.com/parts/keys/custom-cut-key-ka-series/ and also some eBay sellers are offering them.

Iirc LDV officially handles keys for all the old snap-on...

Y20 is a good code. V20 is not.

I'm pretty sure that's who I just ordered mine through...either way, Snap On will give you the number.

Thanks! Wouldn't have thought it was a Y but of course the boxes are 40 years old.

@Jason280 what do you mean? Isn't the number V20 or is there a more specific one to the box?

Just wanted to report that I called LDV and ordered the Y20 keys, total of $16.58 for two keys. That included $2.00 postage, took about a week to arrive from when I talked to the very nice customer service folks.

Of course I didn't have any way of knowing if the locks and locking mechanism on my 1980-82 boxes would work even if the keys fit.

It all worked! Both keys fit perfectly and all the drawers lock smoothly with the turn of the key. I had been cleaning the drawers/slides and painting the boxes while the keys were on their way, so now they are ready to use for another 40 years.
