so some of you may remember I bought this toolbox recently on CL
I want the bottom box for a base for my valve refacer and to hold my engine building tools

this box is a bit rough. in fact it is the roughest box I have evr bought but I really wanted it because I remember this bottom box from back when and always liked them

step 1
take all the drawers out and get ready for a pressure washing. the previous owner used grease and/or oil on the slides so they were all gooped up

so after some simple green and a couple of hours with a 3500psi pressure washer there is a whole lot less gunk on this thing

the box needs to have a couple of cracks and some holes welded up (which I can do). some of the slides are in really bad shape so I will work on them and I am thinking about trying a conversion to BB slides which I have been wanting to try. some of the drawers are bent a little so I have been working on getting them straightened out and taking some dents out.
I need to get the aluminum roll top cover out of the front of the box which looks like I will have to drill out the pop rivits that hold its track in. then I can take a DA to the box to smooth it out a little and prime and paint.
I also want to clean up or polish the sliding cover
and so it begins.....

If it's going into service may I suggest a red tractor enamel with hardener? Not at all expensive and Rustoleum alone scratches pretty easily (ask me how I know.)

I recently repainted a toolbox with New Holland red from my local New Holland tractor dealer. Very good quality paint at a good price.

Thanks for the tips guys. This will be my first toolbox repaint so all information is useful.
Where t
Do I get the red tractor paint? And I assume it has to be shot with a gun

I still want to find out the cost of powder coating but suspect it's going to be too much.
