Snap-On Toolbox Restoration/Refinish

Hi,

I picked this Snap-On toolbox up for $20.00 and was hoping to restore/refinish. I don't know much about it and wanted to see if any member could suggest a good color match for the box(gray) and drawers(red).

I also was looking for help on how to remove the drawers and if sanding was a good idea to prep for the paint.

Hi,

That's not a Snap-On OEM box, it's actually a Rem line with a Snap-on Sticker.

$20 is a great deal. The hardest part will be removing the handles, as those are riveted on.

Sanding is labor intensive... I'd strip it, clean it, wet sand it, clean it again, rattle can it, re -assemble.

$20?!!! You ****!!! Probably a light sand it doesn't look bad, as far as the drawer removal they have a tool or when I was doing mine another member (softtailgarage) recommended using a hacksaw blade which worked great if the slides are set up the same. Do you have a model # for the box? Nice score.

Well, guess that's why it didn't look familiar, as pointed out above its not a Snap On box. Either way for $20 it's cool.

My first box was a Rem Line. Wish I still had it. I wonder how yours would look with a good cleaning and an application of paste wax. That's a fine looking box and a great score for $20. Well done!

Give it a real good cleaning and leave it at that. It's not that bad of shape

Agree, clean, shine, use. Remline is a very good mid-grade user box, but a restoration would never resell for any profit on materials and hours. If you're in it for pride of ownership, then hours don't count, but just know there'd be many involved.
