I am looking at a gently used Snap On tool box. What can the serial number tell me about it.

How is the serial number decoded?

I did use the search function and got very little.

ok, i also ment what do the codes mean and how to read them?

is there a chart?

i can guess that the first numbers of the serial number are year and either month or week of production, but how to know what numbers correlate to what.

any further help would be great.

Im familiar with older boxes where the model and year are stamped into the metal. The newer boxes have a sticker. I dont remember seeing date codes on the stickers. Any info?

Nobody knows nothing? I bought a box today that the person said was a year old. There is no date code on the sticker. I did see the slides were stamped 05/10 so its at most 2 years from production. Any other ways to age a newer box?

SO makes small changes here and there that a box junkie can spot and give an estmated date. As far as I know, when they went to stickers, they was no further dating. I don't know the serial will give you much info, that is what the model number is for.
