$150 would be my comfort range. That is a small chest and the bottom is a remline. Remlines were good boxes back in the day and I do not doubt the quailty of that box. If everything with the boxes are in the up and up, I would offer $125. Two or so of those tops have popped up by me and I passed them up at $75 simply because of their small size.

Top box is a KRA53 from '70's----is it just me or does it look like the boxes were in a fire or something? I'd go with $100 max--check for rust on bottom of top box. BTW welcome to the forum-you posted in the right spot for opinions on purchases.

Ended up meeting the guy late last night....minimal light to look at everything but the drawers all seemed ok and he had keys to the locks (which also worked)...Took them home for $100 - we'll see what I ended up with in the light after work today.

I think 150 is fair for that box, it looks to be in solid shape for its age. I have buddies that have taken worse baths getting theirs.

Not too bad in the light, a few dings I didn't notice....lots of missing paint, but functionally ok....not too bad for $100 I think

I don't really have the time or skills to mess with a restoration on these, whats the best way to give them some protection and get them looking presentable? Simple Green? Wax? Rattle can?
How do I clean/lube the drawer slides?

Really Bro, with all the missing paint not much you can do to protect it and make it look good. Where there is missing paint and rust you'll have to sand down to bare metal splurge a rust inhibitor, primer and paint. Problem is when you do just the bare spots you'll never match the old paint. My advice is have it media blasted and powder coated. Is it worth it? The box itself probly not in monitary value but if you go the route I suggested you will get many more years then you will live out of it.

The front looks pretty good, just paint the bare spots.Leave the front alone.Roll paint on,use some steelwool after its good and dry to blend in and age the paint. I would buy rustoleum regal red maybe. After you are done painting and steelwooling use wd40 to give the whole box some shine back.

You may be surprised with how it turns out. I wouldn't want to restore it,I like preserving.
My 2cents.

Bought the same top box for 45 at a flea market this summer, gave it to a buddy who had an overflowing plastic craftsman box. It will work well for a starter box.

Got a couple quotes for blasting and powder coating just the KRA53 for ~$60 may go that route....also looking at picking up a top/middle/bottom MB Century or a 70's era top/bottom/side SO set.....either of those will probably determine the direction on this SO/RemLine combo
