Hi Guys, I went online to see what would be the best websites and came across this Forum. From the responses I read the members seem to be straight forward so I joined. So, I need some advise and input. Because I don't deal with the sale or resale of Snap-On tools on a daily basis I do not know what the resale value is nor the best way is to sell them. I have (2) identical complete sets of: Snap-On Impact wrenches & Socket sets along with hand tools. From what I have gathered these sets are from the mid-eighties and made specifically for vocational schools. I would say that 90-95% of everything were either never used or have slight wear. Some of the hand tools and a few sockets had a light surface rust that I was mostly able to remove with WD-40. The files have some surface rust I don't know how to remove but it's obvious they were not used much if any at all. As I mentioned there is little if no wear on any of the items. Below is a complete inventory list. I did this a few months ago because I didn't know where to begin. Since these were made a while back I found each item's equivalent tool # with what it is currently and used that price for a guideline to see what they would cost new. What do you guys think these are worth and what is the best way to sell them? I'm hoping I get some input on this. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your help.

~$6444 per set.

Lucky if you got half that on resale.

You could advertise at start-of-term time at various tech schools. Post sets on eBay, and Craigslist. I've heard Fakebook has a for-sale section (I've never used it) and this web-site also has a "for sale" section.

Realistically, I bet you part 'em out individually or as smaller sets, because no-one who would want the complete set of tools, has the cash to buy 'em without financing the purchase.

IM31 3/8 air impact has been discontinued so long there are zero impact parts for them as the Japan made parts have not been made since the nineties. These days it's hard to sell air tools anyway. if you don't part them out as induvidual sets good luck because 10 cents on the dollar in bulk purchases

Snap on tools tend to hold their value better than other brands, so with that being said I tend to buy snap on tools that are 50% off the full retail price.

Just my two cents ,I hope it helps you out some.

I buy and sell tools every weekend, and help my father in law that does it as a revenue stream. That looks like about $1300-$1500. It will be really tough to sell any air tools. Everyone is selling them to get much better battery tools.

The pliers are just ok. Mechanics prefer and even buy knipex off the snap-on/matco truck, so those sets don't pull in much. Same with the chisels and punches.

I see none of the magnetic plastic clam shell trays that the impacts come in. You are basically selling lose used sets. The surface rust you mentioned could end up being drama with certain ebay buyers.
I think you will be lucky to see half that without any drama on ebay

I don't predict much buyer enthusiasm for that stuff and $12k is a trip thru "fantasy land" IMHO.

Most guys are fine with generic impact sockets/air tools. I'd guess maybe $500-700 for all that.

Of the tools on the white sheet, I'd guess another $500 max.

I think $1000+ quick cash for each lot. Maybe $2000+ if you piece meal it on Ebay gradually over time. If you go the Ebay route I'd break it up into 9 separate listings per set and start the bidding at $1/listing to generate some early enthusiasm.

Why don't you go to Texton and price out equivalent tools as a reference point.

First, I just wanted to say thank you for all of your input. Just to clarify, I wasn’t saying or thinking that they were worth $12k+. I just thought it would be good to see what the current retail price was for the individual sets of each type of tool. I appreciate all the responses.

The best value is for current generation stuff in chrome hand tools. For the best stuff, assume a secondary market "retail" circa .50. This is only for the highest quality items. A secondary market bulk/wholesale price is more like .25 but again...only for best quality stuff. Anything not chrome hand tools is lower value as a general rule, in particular consumables like impacts/punches/pry bars etc that aren't the newest ones. They still have value for sure, and they will sell, but lower prices. IE, Any kind of Bundling and Bulking the lot with lower grade or hard to sell stuff will ± cut those numbers, possibly in half once again.

Ebay sells them regularly for 60-70%, though plenty sell for less too. Individual 3/8" chrome sockets often are higher than retail on ebay, it is insane. I generally buy at 50%.

Also, there is a Snap On Buy Sell Trade group on FB. I was recently kitting out a second tool box for my son and bought a substantial amount of tools on it.

Stuff like this, you need to decide between easy sale or maximum cash, easy sale means selling it in bulk to someone who will flip it, max cash means selling in lots of small lots.

Some stuff is desirable, like those old handle pry bars are desirable to anyone who has a set and broke one, or just prefers the old handles (like me).

I'm interested in the chisels and punches, but I don't need double sets and I'm not coming anywhere near retail. Feel free to PM me and we can discuss it further.

Thank you for this input T45. Really appreciate it. This helps a lot. I would prefer to sell each of these sets as a lot so I'm not having to deal with a lot of individual transactions. But at the same time I don't want to give the stuff away. As I mentioned 90-95% of everything has no wear on them. If I put this stuff up on eBay in your opinion, what do you think would be a good realistic starting point for me to put it at?

Thank you so much for this input. Really appreciate it. Could you share with me the "Link" for the FB group you're talking about? Do you know if there are FB groups in local areas? I ask because I'm just not that familiar with these. Thanks

The air tools are only worth $100-$200 tops, there is no warranty on them and no way to buy parts for future repairs, I had them back in the day new and was not impressed by them in the 80's IR was a better tool.
The impact sockets have value, unused 60% of new tops if you sell them 1 at a time as a set maybe 40%, punches and chisels 30-40% of retail. Selling as a complete set I say you would be lucky to see $2000 from a single buyer as most willing to spend that much cash on a unknown will be resellers.

Lol, you could easily get twice the money but it doesn't sound like you want to put much time into it. So, which is it. You have already wasted a boatload of time looking up new prices.

Nice starter sets. Unfortunate those tools did not get used, most parts on the air tools are discontinued and battery are more popular 15 yrs later. which will hurt prices on the air tools, don’t be overly disappointed.

The chrome and other tools sell well on eBay 30-50% in auction if you break up into $100-$300sale lots. I would go crazy selling individual sockets with separate listings and mailing individual sockets, but maybe you have the time and patience.
A lot of new tool dealers, will make deals if you are spending 1K or more with cash vs truck payments. Plus the tools have date stamps, so the warranty is better if you spend with a local dealer.
Post if you decide to list on eBay. I agree with the threads here, you will get more of you take the time to piece it out. But that can have drama.
If you want to sell chucks at deals, you can send an email to me.

There is a classifieds section of the forum. It may give you a rough idea of how to price your tools. Good luck! What's your location,OP? Value maybe worth more if you live outside the city but then I really have no clue.
