"(no crappy eurosnapon)" LOL... Apparently UK Snap-Snobs have their own tools they disdain.

If a tool collector was to buy that set, it would kinda be game over, dude... because what's really LEFT after all that?

that's what I call "sell it like you mean it". if it's an American, it would a very simple picture and a simple line of text "too much to list".

bravo!

MOOSE! LOL!
I thought I had a hoarding problem but this is truly insane; sounds like he got a number of toolboxes and that is why there are multiples and so much overlap.... I have to say I have never seen so much Snap-On in all my life... WOW! Just.... WOW!

I can't really think of anything to say that would be appropriate. Wow!!! I'm almost speechless. That's got to be the most impressive, private owner, set of mechanic's tools that I've ever seen. Absolutely awesome!!!!

Is someone going to save this so that even once the tools are sold, the pics and details will still be available to drool over?

One of the questions was from a guy in Australia who said "If I win I'll fly in to pick it up..." And THEN what? I don't think that's gonna fit in your carry on bags!

I can't even imagine the amount of work in crating and shipping all that stuff to another continent.

In the reply to one of the questions, the seller says "I had the chance to purchase a workshop as a job lot with all the tools ,I did not want them all just the milling machines ,i now need the space for a new machine.

But, in the item description, he says "I HAVE COLLECTED THIS LOT OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND ONLY EVER USED A FEW SPANNERS"

Doesn't the one sound like he bought it all at once, as part of a shop, and the other sound like he put it together himself over a period of time?

Wow, that is a truly mind boggling array.
It will be interesting to watch and see what it finally goes for.
Some quick math and guesswork: The seller says he estimates he paid "over 75000 British Pounds". That is 123000 US dollars, lets round up to 125000, since he/she said it's "over" 750000 pounds. I'm sure the seller would like to make a little profit for his trouble, let's say 20% ... making the collection worth $150000.
I have no idea what the average price per piece is for Snap On stuff but let's just pick a number, say $30 (this is a critical part of the equation and is probably way off, but...), that would mean (minus the tool box) there are 3975.333 pieces. Let's say 4000 pieces.
If the buyer wanted to liquidate the collection in one year on ebay, he would have to list one lot of 11 items, every single day, for one year. And, if the seller wanted to make a 20% profit, (putting the tool box back into the equation), he would have to average a little more than $493 sale price for each lot in order to get back his $150000 and make 20%. That's with buyers paying all shipping. There are 1000 other ways to play with the numbers.
Hmmm, if someone wants to stake me, I'll quit my job, liquidate the collection and split 50/50 with you :) Don't know if I could get it done in only one year though. You wouldn't want to 'flood' the market. Then again, if you type Snap On into the ebay search engine, you get 85872 listings, so, maybe the market is already flooded.
Anyway ... wow!

Formula One teams do it several times a year.

Great idea, this should be a sticky just so we all can have something we can aspire to. It should go down in the internet hall of fame.

He did manage to give some numbers:
"Hi, There are aprox 40 x ratchet screw drivers over 1000 spanners just the pile of loose spanners ads up to over 400 there are aprox 80 socket sets metric/imp 30x allen key/torq sockets .25x adjustables 12" to 4" ,10x torque rachets 3/4" to 1/4" ,all types of rachets most are different x 86 ,there is just to much to cataloge its best to come take a look ,Regards Nick"

I wonder if he'd post some pictures of the rest of the stuff in the shop just to really blow our minds.

Too much for my dial-up connection to download..........

As a consolation for indecisive wrenchers deciding what ratchet/socket combo to select there's a stack of crescent style adjustables.

It also looks like bidding started at 0.99 with no reserve.

European vacation anyone?

on a serious note, I wonder how do you file the custom paper work and what the tax would be for personal use. I'd bet it has to go through a freight forwarder, insured for sure.

Most of the tools I would really want aren't there. Not many body hammers, no air or electrical tools, and pretty much no pullers.
