I buy snap on for 2 reasons. Quality and convenience. For the most part snap on holds a higher standard then most tool manufacturers so their tools perform better. Also when **** breaks the snap on guy has me a replacement in a week.

The country of origin is a major factor for a lot of people, including myself, on what tools they buy.

All my hard line tools like wrenches, pliers, sockets, screwdrivers, and ratchets are made in the USA.

I saw people walking away from Mac and not even giving Cornwell a chance because of the amount of made in China stuff.

What's the point? Snap on corporate doesn't listen to their 2500 plus dealers that have relayed the *******, gripes, and complaints from the end users about where did the letters USA go from my Snap on tools. You can boycott Snap on but, that will only speed the transition to overseas produced tools as profits shrink from lowered sales. What's a tech to do? There isn't a tool truck out there that isn't selling imported tools under their brand name.:wtf:

To be honest I'd probably still buy snap on but it'd be used stuff off eBay and pawn shops where it is made inthe USA. Some things were many to be made here.

Also, why I'm avoiding buying more of the 80 tooth snap on stuff and just upgrading my matco ratchets to 88 teeth. There is at least 2 ratchet sales lost due to lack of COO, even though they claim they are still made in the USA. We know what direction Snap on is going. They're already throwing their logo on stuff made in china, so why not just make everything there?

I love how people in this forum think their the majority. Honestly guys people who are in uproar about no USA coo on snap on tools, you probably make up less then 5% of Snap On's customer base. If 5% of your customer base at your shop complained about something but 95% didn't but you felt catering to that 5% might negatively effect the majority of your customers or might keep new potential customers away would you cater to that 5%?

I would not waste money on Chinese Snap-on tools. If I wanted Chinese(or Taiwan, India, Hong Kong, etc) I would go to Harbor Freight.

Even if snap on outsources their tools they still will hold a higher quality standard then HF and other discount tool brands. As well as if you move and there's no local HF, but i'm sure there will be a local SO truck.

How can anyone in business stay alive and compete when the next tool shop gets their stuff from China (or any cheap labor country) for a fraction of the cost? It's sad but wasn't it bound to happen?

me. I'm not paying American labor prices and ratcheting (pun intended :) ) up their profits for abusing a third world nation regardless of the quality of the tool.

Well said.

If Snap On put's their name on the same Chinese tools that go to HF then I expect HF like prices.

how do you know they will be better quality? there are also plenty of places that do not have truck service.

Your local Snap-on that is a professional who knows his business and product (generally) and drives a large expensive truck around from customer to customer is not a 19 year old kid working at the mall.

That being said if all Snap-on production goes over seas I would expect prices to be roughly double HF prices. That would make them what... 1/10th the current Snap-on prices? 1/40th? Depends on the item I guess.

Because that is what snap on has built their reputation on quality and customer satisfaction. If they dropped quality they would lose business. And if they don't have a tool truck they probably don't have a sears or a harbor freight. You can still get warrantied tools straight from snap on.
