Snap On torque wrench scale markings

I've got a little Snap On QJR117F 1/4" torque wrench I bought off of ebay.

It's marked 40 to 200 LB IN. However, off to the left side of the scale at the 60 LB IN line it's marked "STOP". The word "STOP" is not engraved like the rest of the scale, but looks like it's laser etched.

Does this mean that the wrench is inaccurate at anything under 60 LB IN - or that I shouldn't unwind it below 60 LB IN.

I've always been in the habit of winding my torque wrenches down to "0" to relieve the tension on the spring. Is this a bad idea?

Youre only supposed to wind it down to the lowest setting for storage.

Id have to look at mine to see if they say STOP. I have never seen that though...

You had me curious, so I went out to look at mine. I have the same torque wrench. Mine doesn't have a "STOP" next to the 60 LB IN. mark. I keep mine stored all the way backed out to the 40 LB IN. line.

That's what I meant. ;)

I've also got 1/2" Snappy & Bonney, 3/8" Proto & Bonney, and a couple of HF's. None of them have the "STOP" mark - which is why I asked.

The "STOP" is all caps and underlined. The underline is right at 60 LB IN.

I wonder if the "STOP" was added later? It does look like it's laser etched, though - it looks "factory" - not like a "homemade" add on.
