Quick question, I'm wanting an idea of what guys are paying off the truck for a 1/2" drive 250 ft/lb Angle Tech. Snap-on.com is showing $615 for what I'm looking at.

It really depends on if your dealer gives you a discount off list price. My Snap on guy isn't generous with discounts. It's not going to happen for me, especially given that I'm not a big spender.

The Snap-on guy around here is pretty much list price. I did buy a 3/8 tech wrench with a socket set for 500-ish well over a year ago, some sort of promo or flyer deal at the time. Maybe something to watch for if you are not in a hurry.

Not sure about the guy around here. I'd be a walk-on and what I gather from this site it sounds like hit or miss if the driver will deal with guys like me who won't be making purchases very often. A few years ago I reached out to guy via email for a few items and never heard back. Then later I attempted to call when I wanted to purchase some extra drawer slides for my KRL box, left voice mail and nothing. The lack of response leads me to believe either he does not want my money or the contact info I got off Snap-On website was outdated. I checked Snap-On's site tonight and best I can tell they no longer have dealer contact info on the site and I need to call customer service to get the information (maybe I was not searching in the right place). I will try one last time to get in contact with this guy.

Last I checked the CDI Techangle clones were not far off from Snap-on and they used worse heads. I bought mine basically new off eBay at about half off.

There are a lot more choices for electronic angle torque out there now too.

If you don’t absolutely need the tech-angle I would go for a precision Instruments torque wrench, made in USA and snap on relabels them for themselves. You can get them for about $120 for the 50-250ftlbs (and split beam torque wrenches are very good for their durability)

My strategy for buying a tech angle if I were ever to buy one would be to wait for a used one to show up on classifieds for $300 and eat the cost of calibration if it is needed. Sounds like your local guy isn't that reliable.

I bought a Wright 20-150 from Epstein's last year and it is great. I had borrowed my mechanic's SnapOn to work on my airplane and have since compared the two brands. Can't tell any difference. He has years on his, and I have less than one year and don't use it every day like he does his, but I'm quite impressed with the Wright.

I don't have my invoice handy, but I believe Epstein's price was just under $200.

I don't believe Wright makes a digital torque wrench.

Watch the Snap-on website. They do 10% on various flavors throughout the year. That was how I got mine. 10% off put it around $500.

If you're not in a hurry keep an eye on FB market place. I've been able to pick up like-new techangles for around $200/each. Now I have one for each range!

My buddy is an ex snap on dealer and I used his techangle often and loved everything about it except the price tag. Check into Carlyle as the 1/2” new right now is 300 and some change. Or, do as I did and grab a 3/8” and 1/2” both digital with angle off of eBay for $275, a deal I could t pass up and works a treat for me.

I've been fortunate as my last several Snap-on dealers have been very good and are willing to negotiate with me.

Some of my co-workers not so much but they drag out payments on their purchases whereas I plan ahead and usually pay immediately or worst case bring him the money the following week if it's more of an "impulse" buy. Luckily I don't have many purchases these days though.

Cash talks, today I’m buying the 1/2 torque angle, 500 cash. No tax either bc he can make that happen with cash purchase.

Agreed. Which is probably why my dealer makes the deals with me that he doesn't with m co-workers who make him carry the note and extend it out.

Update: Right or wrong I purchased an ATECH3FR250B off ebay last night. I looked at probably a couple dozen in all sorts of color combinations and varying conditions (from well used to brand new) for the last few days. The one I decided on has a calibration date March 2018. I wasn't sure if it had ever been used by the appearance. Seller (while not original owner) sent me some pics showing torque cycle menu reading "21: TQ: 77.0 FT-LB" and the cycle counter menu reading "COUNT: 6". Seller did fully disclose he has no idea if previous owner had ever cleared the Torque Cycle and Torque Count memory data. I don't really understand this, so I will be reading the owners manual to have a better understanding when the torque wrench is delivered.

Can the date code of the torque wrench be figured out from the serial number or do I need to call Snap-On to find out??
