I was helping a buddy put his truck's 350 back together after he got it back from the machine shop last weekend and I got to use something I've never seen before - his brother-in-law's Snap On digital torque wrench. I must say that thing was cool as hell. It vibrated and beeped whenever it was torqued to spec. I was certainly impressed. He said that he thought it was about $500 or so. Sounds about right but is that accurate?

I have two torque wrenches - an old dial indicator and a decent $100 Craftsman - and I use them sparingly throughout the year. But, I wanted to go out and buy that SO just for the cool factor.

By the way, this thread really has no point.....I was just sharing my fondness for a new-to-me tool.

Yeah, theyre cool. They also switch between foot pounds, inch pounds, and newton meters and there are models that also gauge degrees. There are cheaper wrenches (only torque, and the more expensive ones that do the degrees).

They are nice, but like anything, they are electronic. Good to have a set of standard torque wrenches as well.

The Digital torque wrenches are great for bolts requiring the degrees after torqueing down the bolts for the torque specs.Once you use one,the old school angle gauge stays in the toolbox for good.My father has the Matco model in 1/2 drive

I have the 3/8" angle torque wrench. I borrowed my co-worker's wrench enough times to justify it and know that I would like it. Being able to set the angles and watching the torque increase on the screen as I am using it are really cool too.

I've got the 1/2 and 3/8. Can't justify the 1/4.

Trying torquing the rear bolts of a Subaru block without the 1/4 version. The 3/8 head is too big. Though I've yet to use angle on the 1/4.

as much as i love the tech wrenches i cant justify spending that much on torque wrenches at this time especially when i already have regular 3/8 and 1/2 wrenches. still waiting on pulling the trigger on a 1/4 yet tho....
