I buy most my the Snap-on tools for their physical shape. Only a Snap-on wrench is shaped like a Snap-on wrench. They are easily maneuverable within my fingers; especially their smaller sizes. Only an FHF80 ratchet is shaped like an FHF80 ratchet, but also the mechanical function of the ratchet is second to none. Their sockets may seem like any other socket, but their detents line up with my Snap-on extensions perfectly; that's one detail I'm especially sensitive to. Basically what I'm saying is I can use my Snap-on tools without getting aggravated; that's worth the price to me.

I only have one ratchet that has issues with detents and that the ratchet.
All my detents from Premier, nutmaster, japan style, Koken, draper japan, facom, werkzueg, mac, proto and snapon work in perfect harmony .
Snapon ratchets are indeed exceptional, wrenches well for my preferences combinations are long way from best and the stubby wrenches easily beaten by facoms for dexterity and tight access scenarios .
If I used all snapon I would get aggravated but also if I had no snapon I would be aggravated.
They do some great tools but they not the greatest at all hand tools and mix of best tool design and features will give least user aggravation over purely all one brand (regardless of brand)

Meh. I know what Wamsutta is talking about. There are subtle design elements that go into a lot of S-O tools. A lot of them are probably lost on me, but I've come to appreciate some of them.

That said, I think their sockets are grossly overpriced. But their price takes into account working tech's and idiots cracking them with regularity and the warranty that goes with them. As far as a satisfyingly solid fit between socket and drive tool? Well, I can tell you that that's not a feature proprietary to S-O.

As long as the SO name guarantees a pro grade tool, and as long as they extend truck credit to people who otherwise dont have a high enough credit score to finance a newspaper...they will keep going. They do need to stop allowing the SO name to be put on junk/china flashlights, pocket knives, etc.. To protect the brand. Plus their diagnostic equipment is pretty much the industry standard.. and they do still have the "vanity"..tool thing going for them.. On price (for a comparable pro grade tool) and service ...they are getting their a55 handed to them by NAPA/Carlyle.

I think we all know what wamsutta getting at but that unique design touches is not a snapon only thing and no one tool brand is good at everything .
Hazet, stahlwille, koken, facom, snapon all have specific items they class leader in and also items best avoided as better can be found if willing to look/try alternatives in depth .

You guys have been saying tool trucks have been going away for the last 15 years. They’re not going anywhere.

3 new Matco franchises in BC the past year. Areas never serviced by a Matco dealer before. I think Snap-on added a couple of new routes. My Snap-on dealer has the largest 2 axle van available. He would like to have a bigger truck. No more online ordering on the Canadian Snap-on website. Telephone order only. I think tool trucks will be around for a year or two yet.

Snap-on dealers can get away with less mark up than other tool retailers because of high price tools $200 ratchets and $400 torque wrenches. HF probably has more than 100% markup on their $10 torque wrench and makes about 5 bucks selling it. The Snap-on dealer at 25% markup makes about 80 bucks selling a $400 torque wrench
