We have a Snap On dealer that comes to the shop I work at but I never see him because I work nights and weekends. So this last weekend I borrowed a test light that has a volt meter in it from a shop mate who works normal hours. I liked it so I asked him if he could order one for me. He sent a text to the dealer and since he lives close by he just came in and sold me one off the truck. I was thinking WOW! What service!

About a half hour later I decided I should open the box and make sure the thing works. I tested it on a battery and sure enough, no light, no gauge. Upon close inspection I noticed there was nothing inside the light. I mean NOTHING...as in hollow. No light, no spring thing, no readout, nothing.

He came back and apologized and is going to leave a new one with the other guy for me today. I just thought it was kind of funny and peculiar that it happened though. He blamed it on someone probably returning it after ****** it for parts for their broken one but why would anyone do that if it is warrantied any way? My guess is HE took the parts out to repair someone else's and never re-ordered the parts for this one.

At least I got my two 40 year old ratchets rebuilt while he was there. LOL

All that matters is he made it right. I think you should be praising this man for driving out there twice for you.

It happens to us sometimes.

I've gotten some strange assortments of tools shrink-wrapped in a box and I've gotten brand new boxes that had the wrong tool in them.

Nobody's perfect and it sounds like he resolved it well.

Yep, man gets busy with several customers on the truck and throw in one might be trying to "shop at a discount without checking out" and it's easy lose track of what you were doing.

I did thank him for making the special trip and he did make it right so I'm not flaming him. Just thought it was interesting and peculiar. The first time I actually buy directly off a truck and it was both satisfying and disappointing at the same time. Sort of a conundrum of sorts.

And door to door service to boot. Almost worth the hassle of having a Snappy Snafu... AKA a Snafu-on...

I wonder what the guys at the SO warehouse thought when they got the box containing the NIB untouched box as the warranty return item rather than the one that had been salvaged for warranty parts... oops!

That might explain it then. Maybe someone did return it. The one I borrowed is several years old so I am not too worried. Plus I have a drawer just for electrical items where it can store safely when not in use.

Thanks

Good story with a great ending.

Excellent customer service.

That is why I try to inspect and test most things that come through my shop.

...LOL! Reminds me of the time I went to Hardee's on my lunch hour, got back to work to find out they forgot to put the meat in the sandwich! Just lettuce, onions, pickle etc. Not enough time to go back, so I ate a "Veggie" sandwich that day. Next time I went to Hardee's, I told them what happened. The lady just laughed and laughed! She said that happens sometimes and they gave me a free sandwich plus that day's lunch was free! Not bad.
