Hey Guys,

I have 2 Vantage Pro's; one about 7 years old and the other I got about a month ago. I would like to update the old Vantage software, is it as simple as copying the cf card from the new vantage to a generic cf card and put it in my old Vantage?

Thanks

there's nothing to prevent you from trying that to see what happens. it really depends on how crafty snap-on was when putting together the software, and how badly they want you to pay for updates, LOL. i see both extremes in IT, some vendors you can move software loads between pieces of equipment, no problem, others try very hard to "lock" a piece of software to a particular device.

I believe the software on the primary CF card ties itself to the serial number of the hardware. My prediction is that a copy won't work on a different unit. If it would, I think there would be a lot of sharing of an update.

i doubt it would tie itself to the serial- i assume it is a cf read only card; anyone know how much gb it holds? i think spending 2700, we should get updates for life...

If you try it, you are going to end up with 2 non-working Vantage Pros. They will display "Security Error" or something similar. You will be able to fix them by purchasing new updates for both of them.

Here's what the Vantage Pro manual says, in section 10.4:

"Software updates are released on CF card media that inserts into your Vantage PRO unit. Refer
to the instructions accompanying the CF card for installation procedures. Once installed, the CF
card is linked to your tool and will not operate on any other Vantage PRO unit.
