Matco truck came by today, so I decided to hop on the truck to check it out. Man that was a nice truck. I opened a truck account, but didn't get a chance to buy anything. I think Ill pick up a set of the Protop screwdrivers by Witte first, but the 3/8 drive 14.4V li-ion impact really caught my eye.

How do these stack up against similiar offering, especially Snap ons. This is something I'll have to buy on weekly payments and I would like the best.

I was really impressed by the stock Matco was carrying. Truck was stocked with all types of goodies.

I would (and did, twice) go for the SO cordless tools over the Matcos. Heard from several people around the shop that had the Matco stuff that just plain spent more time being warrantied out/fixed than it did in their hands. All of them switched to SO and couldn't be happier.

I've got the SO 1/2 inch cordless impact at work, and it's great... I use it in the industrial field often, and it's held up perfect

I get ZERO complaints on our impacts.
the matco only sells the ingersoll rand impacts and none of his own. I figured he would have a ton sold since he has been around for 18 years and has a good customer base, but apparently the snap on is preferred around here. I sold 2 18volt this week. One lithium and one regular.

The only one I ever tried was an 18V ZENEX. I had these stubborn shock mount bolts on my Cadillac that I needed loosened. Borrowed the ZNEX from my buddy Brett. It did the job just fine.

zenex works just fine. but if you want more power then get a ct6850........
road service and tow truck guys love it.

chad I have noticed that as well. more cordless than air. I guess so the tech can take the tool home and use it.

I have a 3yr old CT4850 non HO that I love. I use it alot when I make a repair on the road in a truckstop. Sure as hell beats paying through the nose for road service. It's more than paid for itself. I just wish I could use the lithium batteries on it.

I use my Snap-on 1/2" electric impact all the time and it's never met something it couldn't handle. The Milwaukee one I had before it (Bought it at a time between s/o dealers) lasted all of 9 or 10 times and couldn't handle much of anything. I'm not sure if Matcos is a rebranded one or not but I think S/O makes their own which is something to consider if that's indeed the case.

If you want to know the truth here it is:

Ingersol rand makes matcos 1/2 impact. They rate it over 100ft stronger than the Snap on.

I put them both to the real world test and straight up to each other. I charged the matco battery for 3 days (borrowed it from my matco guy)...when Snap on guy showed up we plugged up the battery on his for an hour and shot the bull.

We put a 19mm hex on the Snap on and a 19mm short socket on the Matco. The Snap on SMOKED the Matco. I had the Matco going full speed and just touched the trigger on the snappy and without effort it spun it the other way. Tried it vice versa and the snap on kept chugging with no interuptions.

Listening to the motors on both too you could really tell the snap on was built MUCH better.

The Snap On is cheaper too!

i have a blue point 14.4v 3/8th drive i use daily for access panel bolts on constuction eq. i'm a field service tech btw
my biggest complaint with any cordless tool is battery life. drills, impacts, flashlights, extreme cold weather really kills batteries. i finally broke down and bought 2 extra batteries and a charger, that way i'll usually have access to a charged battery wether i'm at work or at home.

Well I have Matco's infinium line of cordless stuff and I have no complaints. My 1/2 cordless impact was cheaper than Snap-on's, rated higher in torque and amps, has a lithium battery and battery life indicator on the battery(Snap-on didn't have a lithium battery at the time) and my Matco dealer doesn't have a little chip on his shoulder like the Snappy guy does.
Is it better than the Snappy gun?

I can tell you a co-worker has the Snappy gun and it works just as good as mine and vice versa.

If you think one motor is better than another because of the way it sounds you'll probably want the one Snappy has. It's magic too and makes you invisible.

I love how matco's video compares their specs to the older snap on imapact and when they show the mg725 tightening down the fastener they say its 810 ft lbs when that is only the reverse torque of that impact, not forward. Snap On needs to make a new video of their impact demolishing this thing.

FYI, Ingersoll Rand does not make the Matco 1/2" cordless impact.
