Bought a used Snap On interchangeable puller set on the organization board but it is missing a couple pieces, the pieces are going to cost about $500 to get from Snap On, so I was thinking of selling it and going with the SPX pullers Lonestar tools sells for $1200. Has anyone used SPX pullers? Is Snap On the best puller (for the price)? Any other choices out there?

If you have almost the full SO puller set (the cabinet on the wall), and it's not beat to crud, I'd spend the 5 bills to replace the missing parts and use it instead of paying 1200 for a new set just because, well, $500 is cheaper than $1200. Both good pullers, I've used the SO ones and I like them just because they're so damned useful (and everything you need is right there on the wall).

Snap on is cherry. This is what I found. Premium quality pullers when its a job that has to get done. Posi-Lock, Snap-On (Hydramec) are the best if you need it. I haven't had one fail when used properly for everything from fractional horsepower machinery to hundreds of hp.
I threw out all my chinese pullers after the last one failed on a critical job and replaced with Snap-On and Posi-Lock

I wouldnt worry about filling the case “just because”, and Snap On sells (or did) hydraulic pullers also. If you keep a eye out on eBay, Snap On puller parts can be found pretty reasonable.

SPX is Better known as OTC. I find OTC's quality is kind of hit or miss lately. Most of their pullers are no longer US made. I wouldn't sell the snap on puller set but, rather look at what you need to replace and perhaps find a smaller OTC set to cover the gaps in your existing set. I would also steer clear of OTC stinger labeled items.
Hiball- Unfortunately the pieces I am missing are rather important to the functionality of the set. And a quick search on eBay didn't show much available. Hydramec (or Snap On) doesn't make pullers in the sizes I am looking at; 30+ ton, unless I missed them on their website? And I was hoping to get stay with one manufacturer so hopefully they can all interchange (with in safety limits)

I agree. Things like the hub grappler (even though it is made in China) are rock solid. Some of the pullers, especially the ones not made in the USA (with global materials) seem to be made out of pot metal. But Bosch still charges like they are made in MN.
If memory serves SO (hydramec oem) sells them all the way up to 50 ton, it’s just stupid pricey and sold as individual pieces to get from A to B.

It never ceases to amaze me of what great lengths people will go through to avoid buying Snap-on; even to the point of spending $1200 to avoid spending $500 - and then worry if the alternative brand is made in USA or not.

Did you miss the part where he mentioned his intent to sell the Snap-on stuff that he has, likely for more than he paid?
Given that information, I would think he'd be looking at spending less than $500 out of pocket, after the sale of what he's got, to purchase the $1200 set.

If you want a high quality puller, you would be hard pressed to find a better or more versatile puller system than Snap On's.
I have no love for the CJ series pullers, I do have them but rarely use them. Seems like the feet on the jaws are always to thick to fit where I need them to.
The disadvantage i see to the SPX pullers if I'm looking at the right ones is that trying to hold the jaws in place and tighten the screw may be a hassle sometimes. The Snap on CG series has spring loaded jaws to force the jaws to try to close and also can be tightened down to keep the jaws in place. That feature is very handy when pulling horizontally.

Sounds like your missing some parts of the CJ2004 set?
Let me know specifically what part numbers you need. I might be able to save you some money should you decide to keep the Snap on set.
