I have a S-O Ratcheting screwdriver SSDMR8AO that is a bit sticky and doesn't ratchet quite the way it should. When I go to warranty this is there a rebuild kit or will they just give me a new screwdriver?

I'm that kind of idiot that if they rebuild it I may ask how much to trade in on new...….. :bounce:

Attached to my house as most are.... Lol
Do you have a truck that comes? If so he can take care of it. If it has to be sent in most likely it'll be replaced as that's what Mac Tools did a few years ago when I sent mine in for warranty.

I would contact Snap-On for an answer.

But.... When my ratcheting SO driver was sticking a little, I took it apart and cleaned it. Re-lubed. Good to go.

There is a great thread on this forum detailing this, but I can't put my finger on it right now.

I do have a truck and I still hope to see him this week. I was just wondering if anyone had some personal experiences with it. I really want a new tool I am just wondering if I'll have to pay anything or if he'll just hand me a new one. I am buying something else so that should grease the skids. lol

It depends on the driver, what kind of relationship you have and it also depends on what's wrong with the tool. Either way, it shouldn't cost you anything. Your driver will do whatever makes most sense for him to hand you back a functional tool.

I totally understand I'm going to get a functional tool back at no cost. That isn't the question I just want a new one, even if I have to pay a bit to make it even. I'm just wondering because I haven't heard of rebuild kits for this tool.

the rebuild kit exists (or used to) but if you look on the web page you linked, it says under the warranty section that it's non-repairable so it looks like they just replace them now.

There is actually a little blurb in the listing that says: "Lifetime Warranty, Non-Repairable, Warrantied for Materials and Workmanship/for as long as purchaser owns the Tools."

Which makes me thing they just replace it.

Ratcheting screwdrivers are replaced as a whole, no repairs.

Note that the new ones are larger than the old ones.

There's videos of those ratcheting screwdrivers being disassembled and it's not that hard. I don't know. It will depend on your snap on guy. If it were my Snap on guy and he had one on the truck, he'll probably just give me a new one.

There's are thread on here somewhere that tells you how to rebuild them (with pictures). I used that thread to rebuild mine; only mine didn't need any parts; it just needed cleaning. It used to slip out of gear and go into neutral.

I know they can be taken apart and I'm actually buying a new shorter one to take apart and ad a permanently installed #3 screwdriver instead of the bits.

My driver doesn't rebuild anything smaller than a 3/8 ratchet unless you insist on keeping the one you have. He just hands you a new one.

I have had several replaced over the years. Driver just replaces it. Can choose a different color handle if desired. Some drivers won’t give you the bits that come with it. Some will.

Ratcheting screwdrivers are replaced as a whole, no repairs.

^^
This if you want to fix or keep your current driver.

Note that the new ones are larger than the old ones.

^^
There are two different ratcheting handles

SGDMRC is a soft drive body (larger)
SSDMR4BG is a hard drive body

I was able to repair mine with a few drops of MMO and the take down and reassembly instructions found here on GJ.
I was having issues with freewheeling in one direction. I put the detent back in the correct location and it works like new!

Just to tie this one up nicely, I missed the truck for a couple weeks but saw him last week. He didn't have one on the truck but ordered it and we swapped yesterday, it was replaced not rebuilt and it is SWEEEEET!.
