Who's pocket does the dough for a warrantied item come out of? Corporate or the individual dealers?

Then why do people complain so much about not being able to take their broken tools to a dealer they don't buy from.

It should be a non issue right?

It comes out of the dealer if corporate doesn't give him credit for the broken tool. The dealer needs to remember though that he may have to eat a tool once in awhile to retain a customer. Sometimes eating a tool pays off 10 fold in the long run by retaining the customer and keeping him happy.

I pay for the tool, then I have to box it up and send it back to snap on. If for some reason ( abuse mainly ) it gets sent back, then I eat the cost of the tool that I gave to that person. It has only happened a few times, but still hurts, but like merk said you have o do it sometimes to keep the ball rolling in the right direction.

THis is slightly off topic but I sent a ratchet back, 731a, 3/8 flex head. Tracking # shows Snap on got it March 17, yet I still don't have a replacement. How long should it take to get a replacement back? The holes in the handle where the flex head pivots were clearly oblong and the flex head flopped and was clearly loose when torque was applied. SHouldn't be any question the ratchet was worn out. I've had it since the early 90s

You should probably call customer service and give them the tracking number. I had to do that with GearWrench one time.

it's just a flat rate charge, doesn't matter what condition it's in. I've sent them back broken in half. That's going to have to be updated to a C model..

You are thinking air ratchets. He is talking about a hand ratchet. He will probably receive an FLF80 in return.

Also if they are back ordered on the replacment, it could take a while to get the new one in and sent to you.

Thanks for the phone#
Talked to a nice lady who tracked it down, went out on Monday, should have it Thursday. She said in the future I should call first so they have a record of it and it was possible they just send the part out or I guess they would send me a call number for shipping. Awesome service if you ask me. I bought that ratchet new around 1990 or so, I get an FLF80 in return:thumbup:

Plus, according to my dealer, you've only get "credit" toward your bill, so in certain instances, in can hurt dealer's cash flow.

I don't see how it would hurt his cash flow. Think of it this way. He fills his warranty box slowly. A few items a day/week shouldn't break the bank. When he sends it in he'll get a credit just like he said. What that means is that instead of writing a 5k check this week, he writes one for 4k. The dollar amounts will be different, I was using them as an example. So, if he's writing a smaller check this week, how's that really affecting his cash flow?

How do I determine when to send in my warranties? I keep the broke tools in a small box. When the box is full, I send them in. As of right now it's valued at $767.63. I know 1 distributor that has a 55gal drum on a pallet. When it's full he sends it in. He said it usually takes about 1.5 years to fill that bad boy up.

The only way warranties would hurt a dealers cash flow would be if he was running on a shoestring and he did not send his broke tools in on a regular basis.
