Snap on Warranty Questions

I recently inherited a 1/2 snap on ratchet from my grandfather that is probably close to 50 years old. I notice the gears in the head of the ratchet are really worn. When i use it gets to the particular worn spot and won't ratchet. I want the tool to work as intended but i don't want to get it swapped for a new one because it has sentimental value to me. Can i get a rebuild kit? Will they give it to me for free? Will they rebuild it? I have heard it's hard to get tools replaced or repaired by a snap on truck unless your a regular customer of theirs at a shop. Any advice or personal experiences would be great. Thanks

I just called yesterday to have a few screwdrivers and a ratchet warrantied. I'm sure if they have a rebuild kit available for it they'll ship it out with no questions asked. If not they might want to send you a replacement ratchet.

Here's the warranty number that i called.

Your best bet is to call them and explain the situation that you would like to repair the ratchet. If they have a kit they will send it to you for free, most likely.

I would want to repair it myself to be sure that care was taken.

Snap-on men vary as much as anything else. Some will help you whether you are a regular or not (my experience) but others may not want to deal with you.

They will send you a kit if you call them.

Also they make a tool to help hold the ball bearing in when you rebuild it. I can't find the tool on the SO site but its just a piece of spring steel but it's really handy. They sell them for 99 cents with free shipping. Ask them about it when you call, they might just throw it in for free, it would save them on shipping two seperate boxes.

What is the model of your ratchet?
