Snap On Warranty

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to check if anyone else has had this problem recently. I sent a couple of sockets and a ratchet back to SO to get warranted. I have done this in the past no problems. The time they sent them back with a note saying that I should take them to my dealer or send proof of purchase.

I guess this is a way to get around people buying on flea bay and sending them in. I don't have a dealer so I guess I am fresh out of luck since I don't have a receipt. I just wanted to know if this is a new policy or something that has always existed?

Cheers

The correct thing to do, is to call their 800 number. They'll take care of you. If they want the tool mailed back, they will send you a shipping label.
I don't believe they'll just accept something mailed to them any more.

That's discouraging. I have a few SO tools around that need warrantied. They don't make it easy to get contact info for a local dealer either.

No way I can justify new SO prices when their warranty is no good to me!

Maybe try finding a dealer driving around town and ask him to warranty them.

Good luck with that. No dealers around me will take a warranty if they're not banking a significant sale from you (often even if you were a good customer in the past).

Seriously. Try this number, and report back your results: 877-762-7664
Talk to them, before you bad mouth them.

I had a problem recently, I am a hobbyist, I build engines about 3 a year, last year I did 2, invested in a Techangle torque wrench, buy once and all that. Well just over a year and the display shows an error, the electronic side of the wrench are only guaranteed for 1 year apparently !

So I have a dead 3/8 wrench and a 1/2 I dont trust, I really feel like ebaying the 1/2 and replacing it with a mechanical one like I just did with my 3/8.

Its a lot of money down the drain :(

How many sockets is a "couple"? How many times have you done this in the past?

I know of one guy that Snap-on recently cut off that had sent in over 40 ratchets in 2 years for warranty.

It literally was two sockets. I have warranteed one extension, two sockets and a ratchet previously so it is not like I have gone crazy. I will give them a call and see what happens.

Cheers

Who keeps reciepts? I know all the Snap On I bought I never even got a reciept from the truck. We pay a ton of money for so and they need to stand behind the product!

Heck, even if you do keep the receipts they're illegible after a couple of years. The ones my Snap-on guy prints anyway.

I've had bad luck with the SO truck at my old shop. I gave him the same ratchet 3 times to get warrantied and every time he would just clean it and give it back to me. Same problem kept happening where the pawl would swing from "on" to "middle" when I broke a bolt free.

The last straw came when I brought him my SO impact that was 10 months old. That impact lost so much torque that I had to loosen bolts manually, then use the impact! He told me to "bathe it in oil" and wouldn't give me a new tool.

He wouldn't ever give me any deals, and even boxes he was quoting me at full retail, zero discount even when paying by cash. I figure he just didn't want my business and he pushed me to ebay and craigslist.

I've never dealt with a guy on a truck but my single experience with their 800 number Customer Service was excellent. I had recently found my Grandfathers 60 year old 15" ratchet that was missing the on/off lever. I figured i could whip up something in my shop to repair it but, on the advise of other members, i gave them a call. The gentleman i talked too put me on hold and searched for the kits but said they didn't make them anymore.

He then said they would just send me a brand new one to cover the old broken one.

Definitely give them a call and see what they can do for you first.

Uhhhhhhh... anyone who sells or buys goods is given a receipt in the form of a paid invoice or ongoing balance on a truck account or SO credit so someone is doing it wrong.

We're not talking buying carpets in a deserted parking lot from a non-labled white box truck.

if you have a true snap-on dealer/driver , you should get a receipt for each purchase.

Now, if you are too lazy to get one or your driver is not on the level or "cooking the books", that's a different issue.

I;ve got SO receipts going back to the early 90's.
It's called a filing cabinet and file folders. It protects both you and what you pay for.

Please don't go all Gen y or Gen Z saying you're just a victim of your ignorance of proper business due dilligence due to it not being easy in a digital age and needing to keep paperwork around is a pain muchaco.

:)
