Set of safety orange handle Snap On screwdrivers ... logo seems a bit dated.

Anyone have an idea what they're worth?

Thanks!

They're likely worth in the neighborhood of $60 bucks, watch ebay for a bit. Seen some screwdriver sets go as high as $100 and some go for $45, they look to be in good shape

Thanks lumpy. I did a quick search of eBay and saw several "newer" sets in the $90-$125 range.

The answer to this question is "Whatever someone is willing to pay". To a mechanic they are worth the cost of a used set of drivers. To a collector they are worth 4x that.

They are worth about $45...that is the wrong tray for them...also old logo..but a lot a guys on GJ like the underline ones. Hard handle plus orange...show the grease....$45 is fare on them. The newer sets have to proper tray plus most of the guys are buying the softer handles...good luck with them...try the classifieds here.

i think they are more in the 75-90 range. I personally would not sell that set for $45. They may be used but look like they were lightly used. they look pretty clean to me. i have a set of green ones, keep 'em!

Best awnser of the day.
"Whatever someone is wiling to pay"
I owned an antique mall for years and once had to go to court to give the value of some items in dispute. The person payed way to much for things and wanted their money back. In the second hand business you don't give returns. If something goes bad you you just figure you made a bad deal and move on. I have had it happen many times but not often and it is nothing when you figure I have bought out a few million dollars worth of things in my life.

Well back to the story. The judge asked me to state a value. I had nothing do to with the case. I told the judge that the value was what anyone was willing to pay at any given time. I gave my estimate and stated a value and the judge aske me how I cam up with that price. I told him because I have sold like things for said amount. I said I could have gotten more but wanted to turn over my merchandice. I also said that I have payed far to much for things myself. I always figure if I am dumb enough to buy it and think it is a good deal someone else will if I can't sell it for a profit. 99 percent of the time I am right.

The judge rulled that the merchandice was not defective and that both parties argreed on the selling price and that there was no false representation.
The judge rulled in favor of the seller and told the buyer to research what he was buying ahead of time.

E bay is crazy. I pick off things all the time. Some crowsfoot go for $50 and the next week the set will bring $120 You never know. If you never pay more than 24% of the retail price you will always do fine. You might not always make any money buy you will not loose. I don't buy unless it is under 15% and I do it every week with tools. I buye $125 wrenches all the time for around $7 and they are not full of rust ither.

Not my desired arrangement, 5 slots and 3 phillips, so being in a set with the wrong tray doesn't up the value in my mind. I don't think I would get too interested unless it was a fair amount below $50. I could see them maybe selling for $75 if you are patient.

Maybe but all the handles are the new Instinct handles now...60 tops....I can get them off my dealer in green, orange, black, blue, and the ivory limited sets for $50 a set all the time. He gets trade ins and that is what he sells them for...I looked but never bought a set. I have some solid black handles but most of them are the spec. tools. All of my screwdrivers are the soft instinct handles...once you use them, trust me your hard handles will be a thing of the past.

A few posts in this thread you guys talk about the "tray" being wrong.. I'm guessing were talking about the black plastic one that there in.. I personally don't see the point in keeping the tray and hogging up space in my box. I just cut the celophane wrap off take the tools out and toss em.. Not till I registered on this site and browsed the "lets see your box thread" did i realize that people actually keep them, and on top of that keep the tools in them in there tool box.Iv been in multiple shops including mine and nobody seems to keep the trays.. I wonder if those guys keep the Cman and other brands trays in there boxes aswell? Seems that this site has opened my eyes to the fact that alot of people seem to be pushing the envelop of "collecting tools" vs buying on a" i need this tool" basis, I never knew that collecting tools that wernt vintage was a hobbie and had a following. I mean some of the boxes in that thread are just ridiculous and have entire 50+in wide drawrs full of snappy hard handled screwdrivers, all of the same 5-8 piece sets but just different colors, i cant justify the need for 70 screwdrivers, with multiple doubles just different colors. I have a 5 piece blue Cornwell set there hardhandle with a sort of soft grip tape on em,and i have a 8 piece softgrip orange Matco set that i paid 40$ at a pawnshop (couldnt pass it up)and i have never not had a screwdriver that i needed. The matco are my go to. personally I think the thin plastic trays that they come in are junk, but that wouldnt bug me nearly as much as the wasted space in the toolbox..I generally keep the blo-molded cases tho. I am just giving my opinion and we all know it doesn't mean squat. I not attacking or blasting anyone who collects tools, has 10 sets of drivers in differnt colors or keeps all there trays.. With that said I just don't see how these orange hard handles not having there correct original tray has any impact on there resale value.. There not NOS so there just used screwdrivers, I'd say 50$ is about the max I'd go on em but I'm not a super hard handle fan..

Those are in nice shape, have a nice color, and for the most part you can still read the Logo clearly. I bet those would bring around 75 if not more.

I am right there with robertMo, if you list them for $70-$90 someone will eventually pick them up. I dont think most people that would actually buy them would use them, they are a "rarer" color handle combo than most are familiar with. The tray, while not a super big deal breaker to me would be to someone who collects vintage tools like this.

This is like a long hand ebay auction lol.

How so? I've already stated they aren't for sale.

These were my grand daddy's screwdrivers. I suspect my uncle (automotive technician) gave them to him as a gift, and I only suspect that because my grand father was not a mechanic and had no real reason to own a set of higher end screwdrivers. I recently picked up an entire lot of his tools (mostly wood working) that my grand mother gave me and I was simply curious as to their worth. I didn't know if they were run of the mill orange handled screwdrivers or something special. They are certainly worth more in "sentimental value" to me than the actual cash value that someone would be willing to offer.

Thanks for all the input & advice.

I picked up the same exact set brand new in the wrapper and in the correct tray last year on ebay for a little under $100. That was a lucky BIN though. I've seen similar sets used fetch $150+ on there. That set's in decent shape so in an ebay auction, i figure they'd go for $100 easily. Depending on who's watching and bidding maybe $125-$150 if you had a couple bidders that really wanted them. GJ classifieds price I'd put them at right around $75.
You seem to be keeping them for sentimental reasons though so that would essentially make any dollar amount non-relevant I guess. But seeing as you're keeping them, try em out. I find that handle style very nice to use. Less bulky than the current hard handles.

These are the 1980's four sided hard handles. Slightly rounded, vs the slightly indented instinct handles of the 1990's and later.

Prior to the four sided were the three sided hard handles. I still have one or two of those left that the handles haven't deteriorated on. The three sided ones were made of some weird plastic, that would eventually ooze liquids out of it and begin cracking and crazing, eventually falling apart, all the while leaving a puddle of oil in your drawer.

I have a few of the hard handles like the OP shows, mine are black, and were bought in the '80's.

2 different perspectives on that screwdriver set,

1: if they are associated with the black handled ones that leak and self destruct, and
2: if they are barrily used borderline never used in excellent condition it is worth more to a collector, I believe robertmo hit the nail on the head. I would price them between $50-75

you just don't see them every day like that and they are becoming more of a collectors item much like the tri handle drivers of the same period

You can get sets of these contour handled screwdrivers from your dealer for $50? i find that very hard to believe. First off Blue contour handled screwdrivers are VERY RARE, i collect blue and have had over 6 sets of the popular hard handles. and have only seen one blue contour handled screwdriver (and i own it). You can probably find the first run of the very popular hard handles on the truck. which are different than this orange set shown by the OP. Contour handles went from the 60's to the 80's. To me you cant compare instinct handled screwdrivers to the contour handled screwdrivers. its like apples to oranges. and if your dealer has these smooth handled sets for $50 i do not know why you dont buy them, esp blue ones, you could easily double your money! here is a picture of the difference in the handles.

If you want the look and feel of the old drivers I suggest getting these for under $50. Made in USA and awesome.
