I have a Snap-On WB260(basically the same as a 250) balancer that needs to be calibrated or something. It seems to do everything it needs to do: Spins, stops, indicates where the weights need to go...it's just not accurate. Anyone have any experience with this machine? I have Google searched for hours looking for information about this with no luck.

Thanks in advance.

On mine, there was a weight screwed onto the back that you screwed onto the head and then calibrated it. Remeber it needs to be bolted down or it will not work well.

Water or Fix-a-flat in the tire(s), you'll end up chasing weights.

I work with balance machines all the time at work. I'm not sure if it's the same type of machine, but a few we have here have the capability of balancing something as large as a tire. Calibrating it is probably not as difficult as you expect it to be. Did it come with a calibration master? Or does it work as robertearl suggested with a weight (screw) that goes into the rotating assembly? Robert is right, it should be bolted down when dealing with something as heavy as a tire.

I'll try to find some information online and get back to you.

That's the hand spin balancer, right? No calibration weight with it. You use a 4 ounce weight and a steel rim in the diameter that you balance the most. Basically you fine balance the rim first, place the 4 ounce weight on it then calibrate it using the potentiometer in the back of the unit. I have a pdf of the instructions if you want it, just send me your e-mail. I have a wb230 that I think has the same head on it as yours.

Doug,

I have the same model. I've tried to attach the page from the manual on calibration. Shoot me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you the whole thing.

Hey there cjbcpa. I am hoping that you may have a manual in pdf form that you could hook me up with for a snap on wb260 wheel balancer. I recently got one from a local shop that upgraded to a new balancer but they did not have the manual. Any help would be appreciated if you have it still. Larry

I can't help much with this but a friend in Upland CA had one years ago. There were potentiometers in it if I recall. They took a rim and tire to a precision engine balancer and balanced it perfectly then spun it each morning. Only place I've ever gone where my tires balanced accurately if you turned them 90 degrees on the machine and spun them a second time after balancing them. However I do recall that the machine did go out of adjustment very easily and that is why they checked it daily. Seems it went out about once a week.

I have the WB230 and I've had trouble getting a good balance before also.

Almost always it is because I don't have the wheel mounted on the balancer well - in other words it was operator error, not machine error. Especially on heavy wheels I've got to make sure the wheel centers on the cone and the cone spring is keeping it centered. You've got to hold some of the weight of the wheel as you tighten the nut.

After several frustrating bouts with it, I finally got the hang of it and I can balance wheels to where you can't feel a hint of vibration at all. And I always take the time to do the 90 degree turn and make sure they stay in balance. For awhile I would put it down on fine and get the wheels down to all zeros, but I find that I can't feel that last .1 ounce.

I really enjoy driving with well balanced wheels.

FYI - I looked for about a year for a motorcycle kit for my balancer and couldn't find a used one anywhere. Snap-on - or the company that handles parts for older snap-on stuff could get me one for something like $600 - which was way more than it was worth. I decided to make my own. It took about three hours work, and a bit of tweaking, but I got it done and it works great. The trick is doing everything centers on a lathe, and making sure the part that fits into the bore is a really good fit.

Boy, if I had a nickel for every time someone has written me asking for a copy of this manual I'd have..... a lot of nickels.

Happy to help out, but in all honesty, I just rang up Snap-on and they where more than willing to e-mail me a pdf of the manual which I have been re-circulating to all the requests noted here.

Could you please send me a copy of the entire manual. I own the WBM250 but didn't get the manual when I bought it from a HD dealership? This would be greatly appreciated. I own a small HD shop and I was trained at MMI and have seven years experience since and would be happy to help in any way in your future for assisting me with this. V/R Fudludder

To dredge up an old thread on-topic, I have a WB260B. They say in the manual linked above that it's only for wheels up to 17" (I'm guessing when it was new wheels larger than that were very few and far between). Has anyone run a larger size auto wheel on it, or is there some software feature that will prevent it from balancing an 18"?

Thanks!

If the dial stops at 17" then the computer will not make the correct weight recommendations on a larger rim, although it should be able to show zeroes when the rim is in balance.

Then perhaps it is related to the total weight on the sensor.
That's not an issue with low profile tires on an 18 or even a 19. They're not that much different in weight than a standard 17.

That was my thinking, it says it can handle truck tires, and the max tire and wheel weight is 154lb.. I guess I'll just have to try it with an 18 and see what happens.

Cool let me know what you find. I haven't got everything set up yet so it will be a while before I can try it out, plus the only thing I have with 18's is the main family vehicle so I'd rather not mess with it unless I know it works..

Bringing this back from the dead again. Can someone post the entire user manual for this machine including the calibration section?

You end up finding anything out? I've done 18's and it seems like you're just chasing the weights around. By that I mean you add the weights as required and recheck the balance but it's still off. Add some more weights as required and recheck again. Still not perfect so it takes at least 3 tries before it's balanced right. Going to have to do some 19's soon so that will be interesting.

I have not tried, only done some trailer wheels and a 16” honda wheel.
