Snap ON, Where is it Made?

After purchasing my last 3 Snap on ratchets, Im starting to notice a trend. The "USA" stamping is no more. Are they now made in china or some other country? The new SF80A had the handle on wrong, the number was on the back, and the rest of my snap on ratchets have it on the front. Easy enough fix to flip the handle, but the old snap on had quality and this would have not happened before. I hope they are not moving production to china, I want USA tools for the money I spend with snap on.

Taiwan, sorry to tell you. Do a search of this forum and you'll find out all kinds of Snap On (as well as other tool companies) info, that's were I found out about the COO (Country Of Origin). Seems like everyone is shipping their manufacturing overseas. I'm not going to go in to my thoughts on this as political comments are not allowed on this site (their site, their rules!), so I'll behave (for now).

Actually Snapon has moved it production to Somalia. It seems the pirates there had a lot of extra time on their hands between ship hijackings and were looking for part time employment to supplement their income.

No no no you got it wrong.....snap on is moving all its production to Russia.....it's true!! My wife's brother knows a guy that walks the dog of a guy that has a step brother that's on the board of directors for Wal Mart and he heard it from his gardeners hair dresser.

Bottom line is if you don't like it or if you think it's made in China, don't buy it. if you do a search, this topic has been beaten to beyond an inch of it's life.

So how is the tool truck guy going to survive, there cant be that many tards out there willing to pay big bucks for Taiwan tools, or tools that are USA now, but sure to be Taiwan 3 yrs from now , when they need a replacement ? BUY S-K.

Have no idea...same way a lot of companies that have moved production offshore I suppose....creative marketing(read lying)and reputation. Milwaukee, Mac, Johnson, and a lot of other companies that were, up until recent years made in that US have made it and still charge the same prices. I don't see how Snap On would be any different. Sure, they're more expensive tools but as long as people are willing to pay for it, they'll keep selling it. What business wouldn't?
I personally don't think they've moved their hard line tool production offshore. I've never seen proof of it and I've actually seen in person a couple of their many production facilities in the US. Sure some of their cordless stuff and blue point stuff is made offshore but they're not trying to hide that fact at all. Again, if you want their tools for whatever reason, buy em. I like their tools and own quite a few. If not, buy something else.

Excellent advice.

Also, amazing as it may seem, Snapon lists the country of origin on their website for most of their products. If Made in USA is your only concern I suggest you check there first.

I just bought a couple of sets of metric and standard impact sockets that are Williams. Williams is Snap On's industrial line of tools and they are stamped right on them that they are made in Taiwan........I was really disappointed at first but the performance is good.....i would buy another set based on the price and performance

people also need to not confuse made in Taiwan with made in China... it's like confusing it with made in Japan.. The Taiwanese have far better quality standards and have access to superior steel usually than the Chinese.

But again, I say go to the SO website and see the COO right on the page for that particular tool or item.

Who cares where a tool is made, I sure don't. All most people, myself included, care about is how much of a value you get. That is, how much you pay and how well it does its job. I always found it ridiculous that people would spend $100 or so on pliers, but hey, to each their own.

That said, HF continues to be made in China lol

I'm not going to pay $100 for a pair of pliers, but I'm also not going to buy tools made by an 8 year old Taiwanese kid that only gets paid a dollar a week and is missing 3 fingers because he brought down the drop forge a bit too quick after 18 hours on the job.

My Pakistani made soccer ball is another story entirely. IBTL :lol_hitti

Buy a used American made tool, better than a new import, cheaper, good for the environment, keeps money here, good for chinese slaves, bad for china's army.

Thanks for the reply. North Korea is not what I wanted to hear! UGH! I might as well go buy harbor freight tools, and save an @ss load of money. I pay alot for snap on, and I want to suport an american worker doing so. And as far as buying used, I do that as well but sometimes the tool is wore down or the chrome is pealing and I can't find what I need. Thanks

That was a very clever joke, and only fooled you. Your ratchet was made in the United States. They all are. You can always check the COO on the website for confirmation.

Please excuse the rude responses/etc., it's a valid question but it comes up at approximately the same rate a company chooses to offshore production.
