They have improved the design of the spring and ball. The ball now has a small shaft built in, that slides into the spring to help hold it in place. The kit will also come with a small tube of lube. The ratchet repair tools is a huge help.

Thanks, I do have the tool, The kit should be here tomorrow. I think I lost the ball for good this time. :(

I was just trying to see if it helped just cleaning it out but now I need to wait till the kit comes in.

I have a question about the spring. The spring I have looks like it is tapered. One end is bigger than the other. Is the new spring the same way? Which end goes twords the ball? It seems like the bigger end would go twords the ball.

Thanks

New spring should be same size on both ends. But if not, wide end goes in bottom of hole.

This spring is getting mangled up when I was trying to get it together without the tool but you can see the last few coils are smaller.

Time to wait for the new kit to come in.

Some dealers can be terrible on ratchets fixed under warranty. One of my father's friends runs a towing yard/shop in Big Rapids,Mi.The Snap On dealer that stops by his place every 2 weeks is a real ****,one of his employees had one that was slipping giving the user skinned knuckles.Would not warranty it calling it not broken. He stepped in and warned this dealer that he better warranty it or he was not allowed to come around again. Finally did warranty it.

Ok, got the kit in today.

The gear is different than the original and will not fit in all the way.

I got the ball & spring & pawl in no problem but the gear is too big. (depth)

The part that sits into the dust cover is longer than the original & the cover plate will not go all the way down & it will not ratchet when the screws are in.

I put in the original gear and that works.

I bought kit # RKRA380 & model of ratchet is F710 D

Any idea why it is a different gear?

I never removed the old dust cover as the new kit did not come with one.
