It's Friday... The typical day that Snappy stops here at the shop. About 2 months ago he started a promotion, Buy $100 worth of tools and get 1 of 50 tickets for a chance to win a new KRL722APBO. 5 tickets later and he shows up today... I'm now the proud owner of a brand new rolling tool cab! Today is a good day here in paradise. He will be delivering it next Friday and then I start the task of moving all of my tools over from my Craftsman box. Pictures to follow. :bounce:

Sweet deal.

I used to run contests like that. I gave away a smoker, gas powered blender and stuff like that but I never gave away a toolbox though. I got tired of people telling me that the drawing was fixed or that I never actually gave away anything so I quit doing them.

Are you saying you had 5 tickets in the drawing with your name on them?

Yes... I was on a roll that day and spent about $470 so he just threw in the 5th ticket. He was real sly about telling me. He came into the shop and asked to use the restroom. Then he sits the list down with all of the ticket holders names on it and tells me to take a look while he was in the john. Sure enough one of my tickets was stapled to it! I didn't believe it at first. I have been in the market for a new box as mine are overloaded and out of room. Yes I realize that I will be shunned and beaten with Chinese made wrenches by you guys for the **** factor (of me winning) but I will defend myself with some good ole american steel!!! :spit: I am so stoked!!

Chadster, there is another thread here about people and their experience with the SO dealers. I do have a great SO dealer and we have a great repore built. He shows up, I buy stuff, I pay! He gets his $ and I get more tools, works out great. ;) I can say for sure that I am fortunate to have a great SO dealer.

our dealer does a raffle in this format:

about 3000 tickets, select one have somthing written on them. pick one with something written on it get that prize, get one without, $5 off your bill. no purchase required but limit one per visit.

i won a nascar hood replica with the snap on logo on it, another time i got one of those orange pocket screw drivers and the third time i got a lousy looking hat.

i liked the way he did that because everyone won somthing

How do the economics of this contest make sense? That means he gave away all those tools pretty much. Are you sure he didn't mean 500 tickets?

That is great. My Snap-On guy used to do things like that, He even did draws for trips to SEMA or had big BBQs for all of his customers. I know that some dealers are pricks, but when you have a nice one, it makes your whole life a lot more enjoyable.

Congrats.

Are these are promotions subsidized by corporate somehow? I can see how a dealer could foot the bill for a smoker or a blender, but surely not a KRL box?

There were only 50 ticket. I'm not sure how they do it BUT it worked out great for me. I'm sure it would have to be subsidised some how. He is not and independent delaer either, He is employeed by SO.

A win is a win!

I'm not sure I understand. He is a SO employee and drives the tool truck here every Friday. He does his various routes 5 days a week.

That is what they call a company store. The truck and inventory is owned by Snap-on. I am a Franchised dealer. I own my truck and all of the inventory. It is just within the last couple of years that Snap-on has started putting their own trucks on the road.

Man that is way cool. That is a very nice box , and you do ****

Not to rain on your parade, but you might want to ask your dealer if you are going to get a 1099 on $5500 for the box. That way you can be prepared for the bill. You know Obama wants his cut.

I have never heard of a dealer doing a 1099 on something that he gave away but being that it is a corporate truck, they may do things differently. Good point though.

i am baffled by the way this was set up.

either you buy $100 worth of tools and get the ticket free or you pay $100 for the ticket and hope you win. if you are buying the tools, how does that pay for the box? it must be coming out of someones pocket.

even if 50 tickets were sold, is this toolbox free out of someones generosity or what?

And if you ever have to replace one drawer liner, you'll have to buy the whole set at a cost of $153.15 :D

Why would SO begin doing this? Are they phasing out the franchise dealers?

They say they are doing it to fill some of the open routes. It is my opinion that they are trying it to see if they can do it better and more profitably than the independent franchised dealer. If they want to buy me out, my route is for sale for 1.5 million. :D
